  • POWER OF DREAMS : HMSI

Hi ppl...its news REAPER Rash here...

Its been around 2 weeks now..and the NEWS section does not seem to be heating up at all !!!
Well, here is somethin that will keep u thinking. What I'm posting here is some info on the bike segment of HMSI (HONDA MOTORCYCLES and SCOOTERS, INDIA).

The news is that Honda is coming with not one, but two bikes - a mass commuter and a entry level power bike.

The mass commuter is a 125cc bike, which I'm not interested in talking abt.
The entry level power bike is what we all want to know abt...
Its a 150cc with around 13 horses. It has naked looks, i.e a round headlamp with a Karizma kind of a body. The overall size is somewhat similar to that of the CBZ. Key features include :

    0-60 in 6 secs
    110 kmph true top speed
    65 kmpl
    Mono-shock rear suspension
Twin dial instrument console with a rectangular digital screen in the centre.

    Price : 47K ex-showroom (125cc), 52K ex-showroom (150cc)
    Availablity : June 2004 (125cc), July 2004 (150cc)

***BTW do u ppl remember what happened to the scooter market after Honda came in ? Today (in 2 years) they own more than 60% of the scooter market. Now they are giving a second shot at the 2-wheeler market by entering the bike segment, and the second cut is the deepest.

I dont think so. As because in scooter segment there were only two potions : Bajaj and LML. But in Bikes there r so many companies with so may models. So I think it will be impossible. There is another reason also , the spares of Honda bikes r costly compared to the Indian counter parts. I think they will be able to make a position in Indian market, but not the number 1 position. But one thing is Sure Hero Honda is losing its market share after Honda comes out with the bikes. Right Dude?

Scooter market had three major runners...Bajaj (around 50% at that time), Kinetic (around 30%) and the remaining was shared by LML and others. Anyway, no point commenting on that...cause Honda already owns the scooter market now.

I agree they wont take the no.1 position right away...but they will have an explosive start cause of reasons like brand name (their scooters and Hero Honda have glorified Honda), their service which is undoubtedly the best around and sheer Honda reliability.

And HH, well even if they lose the market, they will lose it to Honda..so the money comes in the same circle anyway. Its like they will compete each other, but will keep majority of the market share with themselves.

Yup...it will have an ES...but whether its standard or optional, only time will tell. Rear tyre is same as the CBZ.

maybe honda wants to establish itself as a competitive manufacturer by introducing mass commuter bike and keep things going with the entry level power bike....then hopefully we'll start seeing some real deals from HMSI!!
                              * first bike to hit indian roads with monoshock! that sounds good as welL!
