and will go on sale in the international markets by late 2015. Apart from the new livery, the Yamaha R1 Speed Block edition will also be equipped with an Akrapovic slip-on muffler.

The special edition motorcycle pays tribute to the legendary riders and the winning Yamaha Racing bikes from past.

On the mechanical front the Speed Block edition Yamara R1 gets no chances and continues to draw same power by a 998cc, inline-four crossplane motor churning out 200PS at 13,500rpm and 112.5Nm of peak torque at 11,500rpm. The mill will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the bike tips the scale at just 199kg.

The Yamaha R1 has been priced at Rs 22.34 lakh in India while it is uncertain whether the Speed Block edition will be brought to India in the near future.

Color is good. But really I feel many R1 lovers like me still missing the iconic headlight from the previous versions.

I agree. However we are moving up the technology tree. Small sized projectors are gonna drop the weight albeit not significantly but its still reduction in weight.

R1 was known to look like an alien, this one looks like an ugly alien, flat front like that ktm 1290R is just visceral betrayal.

What a beautiful color combination with top notch parts. Though the 05/06 R1's were the best looking IMO, these days technology dictates to a large extent how a bike looks visually.

It is a good color combination, but still, for me, the best one in terms of looks was the 2007 R1, in terms of overall design and also, the color combination available in that year, specially the Red & White.

Technology wise though, its definitely the best R1 ever... The biggest surprise was how did this machine manage to churn out close to 200PS from a crossplane crankshaft motor...
During 2009, the R1 lost a little power with the inclusion of the Crossplane crankshaft, but made up for this power loss, by good corner speeds and exits achieved due to its nature.

That made me perceive that obviously crossplane crankshaft means the power won't be class leading. Today, it stands close to 200PS... I just wonder how.

Color combination loks hot. And retro.

This colour masks some of the ugliness of the bike, partly by virtue of its colour, and taking attention away from the front to the tank and other parts.
