Tokyo Motor Show 2015: 600cc Turbo Engine

Suzuki has unveiled a 600cc turbocharged engine at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show, which is said to be near-production ready.

No details or specifications regarding the engine has been revealed by Suzuki yet. The engine is said to be a twin-cylinder turbo petrol motor with an intercooler. According to sources, this engine might be the powertrain of the Suzuki Recursion concept motorcycle that the company showcased back in 2013.

The engine codenamed EX7 is said to produce 100 BHP at 8000 RPM with a peak torque of 100.4 Nm at 4500 RPM. This engine has the potential to attract a lot of customers as it will provide superbike class power figures that is also expected to return high fuel economy. Being a turbocharged and lightweight engine will help achieve a fantastic power to weight ratio of the motorcycle.

Typical 600cc road engines normally churn out about 50-70NM of torque, at various rpms from 5,000-12,000 depending on its category.
This turbo engine is rumored to give out 100NM @ 4500 rpm, which puts it right in Litre Class category as far as pure torque goes, and can touch some really good fuel efficiency figures on this basis as well.

The Recursion (a concept shown in 2013) is a semi-faired superbike, which with all the right tech could be a great product for the Japanese company. To keep the advantage of customer interests, Suzuki will need to develop a bike within the range of 150-200 kgs using aluminium chassis and swingarm to keep it light and agile making the bike attractive to the enthusiasts.

If Suzuki does manage to introduce a new bike which is agile and lightweight, it might be the start of a new generation of superbikes with turbocharged engine.

Re: Tokyo Motor Show 2015: Suzuki 600cc Turbo engine.

This is some great news. We heard about Recursion concept a couple of years ago and then H2R came and blew us away such that very few people talked about this exercise from Suzuki.
Though it is segments apart from H2/H2R, I feel it will create the right noise just like those 2 did!

100 Nm @ 4.5k from a 600cc turbo twin? Wow! Bring it to India in a couple of years and price it sensibly (< 9 - 9.5L OTR) and it would surely be lapped up by many.
