  • Mahindraļæ½s Social Media Team Putting Fake Comments On MotorBeam

Its really disheartening to see that Mahindras Social Media team putting fake cooments(Definately +ve) on MB website.I hope Mahindra stops it as they are new to this Bike buisness and definately this is not the way to earn credit. There have been continuous positive comments being put on Mahindra articles from the same IP and the same has been happening since the past 3-4 months.
This is what motorbeam has to say-

    "
At MotorBeam, we take pride in the fact that every comment put in by our readers is read very seriously. It is our constant endeavour to connect with readers to either clear doubts or debate, but create a platform to express freely nonetheless. Hence, it becomes a tad bit easier to know when the reader is genuine or a fake profile worked up by the social media team of an automaker. That, and also since too many accounts generating positive comments for a particular brand from the same IP address smells fishy.
In this particular case, we’ve caught Mahindra’s social media team (likely being handled by an agency) doing something called as ‘Astroturfing’, putting in positive comments on articles related to its products on MotorBeam. A quick check and we came to know that the accounts are most obviously fake and generated from the same IP address. The comments have been coming in for over three-four months now. As much as we appreciate Mahindra’s team checking out our content and would ask them to do so more often, this practice isn’t really taken in good spirt by us or our readers alike, not to forget the unethicality behind it.The problem here lies in the idea of falsely changing perceptions. Internet as a medium allows you to express your opinions freely, not to forget MotorBeam has encouraged the same time and again, because of which a car/motorcycle user or enthusiast response has an equal say here. The problem lies when fake comments made by the social media team try to positively influence the perceptions of prospective customers. Companies need to remember that we at MotorBeam read each and every comment and when we smell something fishy, the first thing we do is verify the IP address. Our regular readers are wise enough to report a comment when they find something wrong, which raises an instant fire alarm at our end"

    News approved!

Sad piece of news, but it is nice that MB came up with it. I hope Mahindra looks in to it and take the agency/board etc to task responsible for the sham!
Such things are least desired by Mahindra, as it only vibes negativity in the long run and however good their offering may be, people won't just buy something because Mahindra tried to shove it down their throats!

I think it's the Zico incident you are taking about. It was a sad story though

Mahindra has responded and has taken this very positively. The company says it's an eye opener for them and they appreciate what we have done. Of course, this hasn't been done by Mahindra themselves but their social media agency (which is most likely a consulting firm outside of Mahindra). Still, agencies act on the request of the client and such things wouldn't happen without Mahindra's involvement. This article will ensure that manufacturers become a bit careful in posting fake comments.
Anyhow, it will be a learning step for them. While it is shameful as such, however, we can't count out the possibility of Mahindra not actually intending to do this, but an overactive PR agency at it.. Its possible that the agency was told to handle the online media, and the PR agency didn't have a clear idea how to do that ethically/ without coming under the scanner.

Anyhow, Mahindra stepped ahead and took the responsibility, that's what counts the most now..

The rise of social media has provided businesses with the opportunity to connect with their customers in ways that were never before possible. However, not all social media practices are ethical or effective. One such practice is when a social media team puts fake comments on their posts to make it seem like there is more engagement than there actually is. This is a deceptive practice that can damage a company's reputation if it's discovered. To avoid these social media mistakes, it's important to establish clear guidelines and ethics for your social media team. If you want to learn about social media habits to avoid, head over to this https://www.discoverybit.com/questio...-social-media/ website that offers a comprehensive guide to the most common bad habits on social media and provides valuable insights on how to avoid them.
