Re: Odd-Even Rule for Two-Wheelers might come up in a week

Its a welcome move to save the environment and our health

Being a delhi resident and daily office commuter we know the problems we are going to face due to this rule. Our transportation system is not capable to handle the existing load of commuters for example Delhi metro is already stuffed with people during weekdays/office hours that you feel suffocated to stand inside. Add to that the misbehavior of our 'civilized' citizens who will blindly push and even make you fall if you aren't prepared. I have seen senior citizens falling due to this. So a person who travels by his own vehicle will never want to face such uncomfortable mode of transportation and would not like to be pushed around.

Also imagine the increase in the no. of commuters in metro and other public transport from tomorrow when the rule applies, this will only worsen the situation.

Funny part - Just because i am not a Women or a person who own a bike(sold it damn!) i am going to face this problem.

So the problem is genuine if people are cribbing due to this rule. People sitting in other cities and commenting what is right or wrong do not have any idea about the state of public transport in Delhi.

Its a welcome move if things are planned and infrastructure is ready to support such things. Heck other countries have even made public transport free on such days to promote it. What do we get?

The attitude of us citizens has to change first. Countries and cities are after all made up of citizens . So you see where the problem lies.

Come on guys, there has to be some starting point and then improved over a period of time (now don't measure time in seconds, but it could take a few years). Most of the discussions I see in the various media seem to be all whining and complaining (including the delhi cops, politico's etc..). To me it seems that some forces are bent on giving the Delhi CM a tough time.
If you try to reign in the diesels, the diesel community will come up in arms
Try the two wheeler's, same result
Petrol cars, yes again.. every category has a bunch of folks who wouldn't want them 'restricted'
Sadly it's the mentality of us citizens that's doing more harm than the vehicles!
Well if you want clean air then you gotta sacrifice something and learn from the issues that would crop up and slowly improve the public infrastructure, so that in the near future things fall in place at least to an extent.
If anyone has a better idea, do try and make it public.. it's easy to whine complaint by hiding behind a computer , so try doing something that would make a positive impact.
Did someone say 'swachh bharat' ? The only swach bharat i've seen is people posting their 'swachness' on social networks, and the next day spitting and throwing garbage around. And now I've to pay 0.5 cess for this !
it's like dropping an egg and saying 'guys please wait for it to fall before saying it will break'.

well, guess what gravity works every time. pvt cars add a minuscule percentage to delhi's overall pollution. this would cause untold misery for the common man, the middle class that voted for him.

only people happy with this are
        a) AAP's auto driver votebank who are salivating at this opportunity to make a killing by extorting the middle class
        b) the elite and rich who are either exempted or can afford two cars, they will get to ride on less congested roads, at the expense of the common man
        c) motorcycle makers. incidentally two of them (bajaj and Lal) are AAP supporters

as for swach bharat, you may be sitting on your bum moaning on the internet, there are many people who are giving their time and effort to make it a success. look up temsutula imsong, a naga lady doing absolutely awesome work in cleaning up ghats in varanasi. or the hashtag #shraamdan where people around the country are doing their bit to clean up India. the list goes on.

but no, let's create oddball laws and everything will be solved. typical bureaucratic thinking, as if laws alone ever solved anything !

anyway, sorry for the off topic.

I don't understand who is the bum moaning here, quoting fancy hashtags. stop giving examples of one person doing cleanups. the overall situation has not improved one bit. there are an equal number of people who do their bit to avoid pollution as well. I dont have fancy hashtag to direct you to, but I have seen people who cycle to work 10km one way every day and those who carpool and bikepool as well.. and don't assume these are the low income people but people who work in fancy corporate offices as well.

And i fail to understand why being a 'aap supporter' is considered demeaning or wrong or whatever.. is it illegal to be a supporter of AAP but legal to be a supporter of another party ? Am just asking..! I don't want to be jailed if i ever want to support a specific party!

what makes you assume i don't use a bicycle already ?
just because you close your eyes don't assume that the entire world is sleeping.

And with idiots like these around, i think i should keep my mouth shut..
@mods i think we folks are taking this way too off topic and i suggest you lock this thread.

Invest in public transport(non dino power source) heavily and make it more economic in comparison to private alternative.

              * non dyno power source : primary source is coal ;-0

Where there is a will, there is a way!
Heard somewhere that to counter this odd-even rule, Delhi citizens are looking for a second vehicle(second-hand) so that they can have both the vehicles in the garage and take them out on alternate days!
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

In which case, manufacturers are in a profit and citizens fall yet again into the "Dumb" category.

And what makes you assume that we are not following or won't follow the rule to save environment.

FYI my even number vehicle was off the road today n will not be used on odd dates.

If voicing out the concerns and problems associated with the rules is considered being called or indirectly being called as an idiot then yes I am an idiot!

We idiots just want a better transportation facility so that we can comfortably commute.

People like you are probably more blind that see only one aspect and not the other aspects. Think in one direction n not ready to listen yo others n just want to Blabber on the internet for some ego boost.

Yes this idiot will follow this rule for 15 or more days but yes I will crib because transpotation facility for us just sucks.

Good that you are keeping up with the rule.
the idiots i mentioned was related to the link i posted.
ok, i am blind and blabber for ego boost.. let it be that way and you can continue to crib and expect to be spoon-fed or handed things on a silver plate.

interesting development here.. based on the cm's comments today, he said this rule will be in place as and when needed: Odd-Even Rule: Arvind Kejriwal says it's impossible to continue the scheme permanently | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis
that's some reasonable workaround.. let's see how it pans out. And as i said earlier, only once you get the ball rolling will you be able to adapt and make changes. This isn't something like a fastfood burger that gets flipped up and served in minutes.

that my brother seems to be the truth, sadly. its not everyone, but a few handfuls that just go about ranting.
maybe only when they or their loved ones are affected by a serious health condition related to pollution will they open their eyes.

@ s1d, I didn't give you example of one individual doing one thing but thousands of individuals working hard to clean up the country. which you would have known if you had simply followed the hashtags. I guess that explains the lazy bum comment as well ?

meanwhile, even on a low traffic day (everyone is on leave) the odd rule couldn't pull down delhi's pollution numbers. although some math challenged journalists did claim a huge success because pollution levels dropped from morning to mid day !

monday would be worse, both for pollution and passengers.

p.s. new environment protection rule from delhi govt : people are not allowed to sneeze or cough without a license issued by your local AAP office, for a fee.

Yes the real test would start from Monday and it would be interesting to see how they manage to enforce the law since i already see many violating the rule and zero checking (atleast on my route to office).

Regarding the pollution it was actually the opposite, it was higher than usual. Dont know how

Anyways expecting a change in just 1 day is stupidity.
