  • 2016 KTM bikes to have auto headlamp feature!

In compliance with the Government of India's recent regulations to made auto headlamp mandatory in all two wheelers, KTM has decided to equip their 2016 lineup with the same. What this means is that the headlight of the bikes will turn on automatically as soon as the engine is turned on. The headlight on/off switch will also be removed from the bikes that will have auto headlamp feature, so the headlight of two-wheelers will remain on even during the daytime and the riders won't be able to turn it off.

This is a mandatory feature in a lot of developed countries, including Europe and US, and the big imported bikes that are sold in India also have this, including the Ninja 300.

We at xBhp welcome this move and congratulate KTM to be among the firsts, if not the first, to bring this important safety feature in their bikes as this is an important safety feature that will result in improved visibility of the rider as the other road users as a two-wheeler with its headlight on will be spotted more quickly and easily by other road users. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of two-wheeler related accidents in India.

Also, this has been a practice xBhpians have been following for a very long time. As soon as a rookie member joins xBhp group rides, the first thing he is told is to always keep his headlights on. Sometimes, this gets us funny reactions from other people who are not used to seeing the headlights on during daytime. Often at the traffic signals and even while riding, using a weird looking hand gesture, people try to warn us about the headlight that is turned on.

The 2016 lineup of the KTM in India, the Duke 200/390 and RC 200/390 will also see a host of other upgrades including but not limited to slipper clutch in Duke 390. Though the Indian lineup of KTM won't see the inclusion of side mounted exhaust pipes, which will find its way in the European models.

@sunilg, not fair! I put this news up 3 days back and you transfered it to the Random news thread!

But yes, KTM is being awesome as they always have been!

But yet again as always, the Indian public will be unaware of this safety measure and all the 2016 KTM riders will start getting gestures from other road users that their headlights are ON! xD

Removal of headlight switch is not an upgrade so to speak.

The Duke 390 is already decked out. No further upgrades.

All further changes will be revised for the 2017 models

If the Duke 200 is to get any changes, then it will be what the D390 has.

Assuming they would want to keep the price unchanged, the only changes I can see are, a slipper clutch and DRLs. ABS will hike the price so that wont come. Metzlers will hike the price so that wont come either.

Just came from KTM showroom. The Duke 200 (2016 Model) has the DRL while the Duke 390 doesn't. The showroom guys explained they received 4 Duke 200 and 390's 2016 model and only the Duke 200 had DRL. There are no other significant changes in both Dukes in 2016 model as far as my understanding goes!

The D390 model they have might not be the 2016 version then. It doesnt make sense that the 200 has DRLs but not the 390.

Slipper clutch on a 200 CC bike. They wont do it as price will increase adn a 200CC actually doesn need a slipper clutch.

ALso i think there wont be any major change as its phasing out by 2017.ABS i wish they give on that bike. And why doesnt KTM think of somehow stopping the Mud splash to the rider or pillon!

Slipper clutch on 200cc will not hike the price because it did not hike the price when the D390 got it or now that RC390 has got it

Yes but if u see initially the 390 was launched at a lesser price but now it has increased .although they don't factor the price with the inclusion of sloper clutch but when u see the price increased by quiet a bit since when it was launched.same goes for d200 without any additions.I personally think 1.7 on road bangalore for a 200 cc bike is pretty high
