  • Speculation: Bajaj working on a larger-capacity Avenger

The Avenger 400 is expected to use the 375cc single-cylinder engine that Bajaj currently produces for KTM for its Duke and RC 390. The engine is likely to be offered in a different state of tune as on the KTM model with the main focus on cruising ability.

So, is this going to be the Cruiser Sport that everyone is waiting for? Will Bajaj launch a CS400 and an Avenger 400, thereby having two cruiser-ish motorcycles? Is there enough volumes in that sector even?

    Is this news utter gobshite?

Well, what happened to the right man for the right job concept? These short stroke engines are not suitable for cruiser duties...
We've already had some new Avengers recently, and with all of them Bajaj did the most logical intelligent thing one could do... used the 220/150 commuter air cooled engine.

But yes, if they manage to tune the 373cc engine for more low end torque, even if that makes just 30 bhp, I would consider it a job well done. Unfortunately, its easier said then done. All the camshafts, fueling, throttle bodies, etc have to be changed accordingly...

In my opinion, if KTM-Bajaj have readied a decent low end torque engine, they can use it for Cruisers, as well as adventure touring motorcycles, or commuters of a lower standard...
And I think, internally... they've already readied such an engine... (I just think, its not an info)..

Bajaj is going hero's way it seems. Same engine in different bikes. Although putting the 390's motor in a cruiser isnt that big a strech since most 390 riders use their bikes for touring anyways.

Isn't that what Hysung did with its 650cc Aquila Pro cruiser .... These are platform bikes sharing the same components across multiple genres.

They have to share parts to reduce costs to themselves and the consumers.
Personally Changing engine config is not that big of a deal, get a team of 10 people with an already build engine, and you will have a product engine within months time.

End of the day even with a 400 cc Avenger, they would sell like hot cakes compared to KTM or other Bajaj due to better seats, more pillion comfort + I'm sure they would be bigger version of the current version with premium components or more digital signs etc, etc.

Tourers going to have a pretty tough job deciding on the ride.
              Lot of options for them.

Ps:- I don't understand why they simply plonk the racing engine without decent tuning for tour/cruise purpose ?
I understand that the aftermarket ecu maps are available for about 20k but it would be so cool to have it company fitted.
Or is it that they purposefully leave it for the freelancing enthusiast !?
