It is a good initiative right now, but is also difficult to manage as many dealers do not agree to deliver a product in remote areas. Therefore, the company itself has to manage, sometimes, even at a loss, because it can’t lose such customers.

There is still time before the trend to sell motorised vehicle online in India, flourishes. With so much logistics to handle and apprehensiveness of customers, online platform can't be a winning a choice for selling cars or bikes for now.

This was tried first by Mahindra for its 2-wheelers, a couple of years back. It never really took off then, hope it does this time!

This concept will barely going to work, not only in India, I think its little impossible anywhere, at least in my case, going to a showroom and seeing your coming machine into your life, seeing it getting prepared for you and then taking delivery are different emotions, I don't think anyone would want to miss those moments

BTW Hero want to try everything, in every aspect, except new mouthwatering product launches...

As I understand, a local official dealer will contact you to get documents and get the ball rolling there on.

Wonder whether there will be discounts as well

+1 to animeher . The Snapdeal will only work as lead collecting agent. They'll get the customer details (and money) and send it to HMC. HMC will contact their dealership nearest to the customer and deliver the vehicle and get the paper work done.

Even if the paperwork is done by SnapDeal or any of it's partners, what about PDI and the apprehension in the minds of a consumer about getting an unflawed motorcycle? As a customer, the first thought in my mind would probably be "what if my new ride comes with a broken body Panel or a defective instrument?"

I agree, there are people who buy phones of 50,000+ online without a second thought - but there is a difference between buying a 50,000 phone and a ₹50,000 motorcycles. Phones come with sealed packages and a sealed package is an assurance that the phone is untampered. How can the same assurance be provided for a bike?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

There will be takers of this idea too. But, I personally don't think they are bikers. They can be called as discount seeking people.
With Hero's nationwide network, it can be possible that someone from the nearest dealership rides the ordered bike to the customer's home. But, that is fine with Pizza. Not with bike. The feel of going to a showroom, seeing one's prospective ride in flesh, rejections and selections, anxieties ..... no isn't possible online. There are a few things which shouldn't be brought online. Bikes/cars are among them IMO.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Can't speak for other's but I would love to see every manufacturer selling bikes/cars online someday thereby giving us an option to buy directly from them rather than through middlemen/dealers. The online model will never kill the showroom business model anyway as many of you have written above who prefer shopping with dealers.

I always prefer trying a product out for real from a dealer/showroom and then buying it directly from a manufacturer where possible. Simply peace of mind rather than being in the mercy of the showroom/service centre guys.

+1 and indeed very true. We are after all Indians. You buy a bike online, ok, no problem, but where will u service it?? Every showroom will mock you saying (humse hi khareed lete ) could have brought from us. And by the time u need replacement of a part, showroom guys will make super cool rejection methods, first one being modified, 2> it has been tampered with. Why ? Because u haven't brought from them.

Same reason why we do registration from showroom rather than RTO itself, cause of less hassle and pain in a**.:banghead:
