    Harley-Davidson to join Gujarat Police Fleet: xBhp News

    Harley Davidson Street 750 and Harley Davidson Superlow will be used for VIP convoys during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2015, which will be held in Gandhinagar in January 2015.

    These Harley Davidson Street 750 and Superlow have been given a white paint job as well as warning light, siren, and a wireless communicator. Both the bikes will be stock in terms of mechanicals.

    Harley-Davidson bikes are used by police departments across the globe, with India being the latest name in the list.

    Gujarat Police is now the first Indian state police to get the Harley Davidson.

      Harley super low are most likely to scrape/ hit their bottom every time it has to go on a speed breaker (even a small one). Personal experience.
      For a healthy lifestyle one needs a good pair of running shoes and a super awesome bike!

        In India everything happens from VIP, I am not against to use Harley or any other big or small brand for police in any state but it looks like it is just part of show off for VIP movements.
        Other wise we all know the usability part of high end bikes for police and maintenance

          Nice gesture by government but question is how long could they follow this ( considering maintenance ) because i have heard few months ago some state's police Department would be using CBR250R with similar paint job abd accessories but haven't seen single bike after that.

            pulsar maintain nahi hota aur harley chalane lagey.It will be a joy ride for all in the department thats the end use of this bike

              Seems like the PM is all talk. They promote "Make in India" and then using Harley Davidson for government purposes!

              Would have loved to see a Bullet or anything else Indian made.

                Very well said..I have seen poorly maintaned 100cc police bikes..how can they maintain such 'heavy on pocket' Bikes?

                    Harleys are not at all meant for chasing... So it's mostly for display of Gujarat's progress And buying one or two imported superbikes is not gonna change the motive of 'Make In India' campaign. And, leave display of progress, if someone wants to buy a quality superbike, can any Indian manufacturer provide it as of now? I doubt !! The highest capacity bike made in India, right now, is of 535cc by RE. So what's the issue if someone buys some imported motorcycles.

                      It's not something that we are used to see in India. But, it'd be very interesting to see how they maintain a HD. Also, curious to know whether they'd escort an Amby or a Sumo. Because, if you are using a HD, the main cars of the convoy should also compliment the same(personal opinion).

                        Acche Din man, everywhere is Acche Din, might as well get a trademark on it.
                        Won't these motorcycles be more maintenance intensive and less fuel efficient than other bikes who would serve the purpose better.
                        Also, motorcycle escorts are just show-off and of no practical use.

                          Waste of money...Instead of investing in improving the living and working conditions of the police, just adding a few "showpieces"...that too only to boost the egos of some VIPs seems like a very bad idea.

                            This is a nice gesture of showing off....royal enfields would have been fine ...how can the govt spend this much for just escorting bikes that may get scrape against speed breakers...maintaining would be surely expensive.... useless expenditure by the govt..

                              Well actually I think using these specific Harleys kind of fulfills half the purpose of 'Make in India' campaign, since the street 750 is well...made in India and the superlow is a CKD I guess so that does not count being Indian made, The purpose 'Make in India' campaign itself is to make global products for global brands in India, similar to how china is rolling.
