• Kawasaki Estrella Cruiser Imported to India for R&D

A few days back I noticed this entry in import data -

Name:	Kawasaki Estrella.jpg

This bike, BJ250, is also known as the Estrella and this is more or less what it looks like -

Specs say around 20 hp and 20 nm @ 6K rpm from this air cooled single.

At first I thought nothing of it even though Kawasaki is at the forefront of bringing in all sorts of bikes into India.
Today I read this article : Kawasaki to get a Royal Enfield competition bike - EXCLUSIVE and it says Kawasaki is going to bring in an RE competitor. So either the motoroctane guys are keeping an eye on Zauba and putting up a clickbait article or there may actually be a launch later.

Kawasaki Estrella Cruiser Imported to India for R&D

According to latest import data, Kawasaki India has imported a single unit of the Kawasaki Estrella (aka Kawasaki BJ250) cruiser in the country for R&D purposes, raising hopes of a possible launch of the 250cc motorcycle in India. The retro styled quarter-litre cruiser from the Japanese manufacturer just might be the answer to the Royal Enfield range of motorcycles, currently the most popular of its kind the segment. That said, there has been no official confirmation from the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer about any possible launch of the Kawasaki Estrella in India.
The Kawasaki Estrella makes for a visually enticing motorcycle and comes with several striking bits including a neatly contoured fuel tank, elongated single seat, retro styled mudguards and spoke wheels. The bike also gets some beautiful bits including the chrome finish on the round headlight, indicators and round rearview mirrors. The remainder of the motorcycle is finished in black or chrome (depending on the colour scheme) including the engine and exhaust that completes the retro charm on the cruiser.
In terms of power, the Kawasaki Estrella uses a 249cc single-cylinder engine with fuel injection that produces 17.1bhp of power at 7500rpm and 18Nm of torque at 5000rpm. The bike comes paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
Brought in as a CBU, the import price on the Kawasaki Estrella is recorded as a hefty 4,02,353. However, should Kawasaki choose to introduce the retro cruiser in the country, the company will bring it via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route in a bid to keep the prices competitive. With local assembly, prices can be expected to be a little over 3 lakh (ex-showroom). This, however, still turns out to be expensive when compared to locally manufactured models from Royal Enfield. The model though can be seen as a more reliable alternative and a tough competitor to the upcoming Hyosung Aquila 300. More details are expected to emerge in the following months.

So you quoted a source which ripped off Tanay's information without giving him credit?

Half as good? What are you talking about? Looks like a Bonneville, and has the ergos spot on. Costs twice as much? What is the source of your information?

The only thing thats twice(actually 100 times as much) as much is the reliability.

Relax Hyper, if that's even possible! He had no way of knowing what tanay had posted. He saw an article online and shared it on the forum, like tons of other members do. You don't need to jump to conclusions so fast.

Who said Bonny looks good? You talk of reliability as though it comes with a iron clad no questions asked guarantee, come on be realistic both ways.

I didnt even know that it was not a universally accepted fact.

How many Kawasakis have you seen broken down? How many REs?

Well, that's because they get sold before they even reach quarter/half the miles as other brands do and no one bothers afterwards.

Can you justify its looks and price if it is priced at its imported cost? That is in 4L range?

New REs do not have any reliability issues. The extra money anyone is paying for "reliability" can be saved for future service costs, fuel and adventure rides.

Price this under 2lac and bad times start for royal Enfield bullet 350s. Looks fantastic to me, but this won't have the thump bullets have for generations but still it will make one hell of a tourer and reliable too. 👌

I wish! :-)
Looks are subjective but this one looks cool to me with minimalist design. A less fussy bike is a better tourer as per me. If Kawasaki doesn't repeat what Suzuki had done with Inazuma, then interesting days are ahead! But all these are speculations and the outcome will depend on lots of ifs and buts.
