  • Rumour Proved false - Dani Pedrosa stays at Honda

Dani Pedrosa could be set to end a 16-year Honda career by joining Movistar Yamaha in place of Jorge Lorenzo next season.

Pedrosa's name had emerged as a 'Plan B' for Yamaha at Jerez last month. However Spanish newspaper El Pais claims that Pedrosa will now become Valentino Rossi's 2017 team-mate.

Yamaha's first target for the ride is (or perhaps was) rising star Maverick Vinales, but the 21-year-old has found it difficult to decide between moving to the M1 and staying at Suzuki.

This morning at Le Mans, the Repsol Honda team and also Vinales' manager denied the report of a Pedrosa/Yamaha deal.

Pedrosa has been a Honda rider ever since his 125GP debut in 2001, winning three titles in the junior classes before joining MotoGP in 200.

The 30-year-old, backed by Movistar during his 125 and 250cc career, has gone on to win 28 premier-class races, making him the most successful rider without a 500cc/MotoGP crown.

If Pedrosa moves it will free up a factory RC213V ride alongside Marc Marquez. The double world champion is also yet to officially sign, but thought certain to stay at Repsol Honda.

Re: Rumour - Dani Pedrosa close to Yamaha switch?

    Rumor Approved.

Livio Suppo's opinion is that this switch won't happen, and Dani's first option is Honda. Apart from that, other official sources are denying this too, like Vinales' manager.

Pedrosa himself wasn't so assuring as he just gave a "no comment" gesture to this rumour, saying 'the situation is the same'.

Cause of the rumors is that, the Spanish Newspaper El Pais actually asserted that Dani will be Rossi's partner for 2017. Apparently, Yamaha may be trying to get Dani to itself, or it could be an overenthusiastic newspaper selling dreams.
Its actually a dream team that many wanted to see eagerly since years now. Rossi is liked for being the ace of the game, and Dani for being the gentleman who brings grace to the sport.
So, will the Ace and Grace be together? Only time can tell that folks, stay tuned.

This change may spell the fall of the Berlin Wall which has been there for few years now, in the Yamaha Garage...

About Pedrosa: Dani Pedrosa started his MotoGP career in 2001 with the GP125 class. Statistically, Pedrosa is the most successful Premier class racer to have never won the MotoGP championship. Also known as the hospital's favourite MotoGP star, Pedrosa is the immensely respected by fans and foes alike, for his sportsmanlike conduct and a modest, non-aggressive style of racing.

Re: Rumour - Dani Pedrosa close to Yamaha switch?

Spanish newspaper El País have confirmed MCN’s story from earlier this week that Dani Pedrosa will make a shock switch to the Movistar Yamaha squad for the 2017 MotoGP season. Spain’s biggest daily paper – and one of the most trusted publications in the paddock – reported online last night that Pedrosa’s deal has now been finalised, after Yamaha failed to agree terms with Maverick Viñales, who will remain at Suzuki. MCN first reported the story exclusively on Tuesday, after sources in the paddock confirmed to us that Pedrosa would make the switch. On paper, he is perfect for Yamaha, replacing a rider with a very similar riding style in the shape of Lorenzo. Pedrosa’s reputation as the perfect teammate could well mean that he is the ideal option to back Valentino Rossi’s remaining two years in the sport. Pedrosa’s move would also end one of the longest relationships in MotoGP – and may well open the door for British rider Cal Crutchlow to have a second go as a factory rider. The Brit

Maverick to Yamaha is a much better decision. I love Dani, but he's going to have limited long term impact on the team and Yamaha need to think of that.
Every Motorcycle has a tale to be told and there is no greater privilage in the life of a rider than to have truly understood what his Motorcycle stands to tell. Some of the greatest stories in the world are not written, they are experienced.

I think Maverick Vinales will be ideal for Yamaha. Or maybe Pol Espargaro might get a chance along side Rossi if Pedrosa and Vinales deal doesn't fall through.

He's just 30 I think. And going by his track record, he might not change teams beyond Yamaha. And Yamaha still has enough choices for their future, and enough time too.
Anybody from the young talent would anyday jump onto a seat at Factory Yamaha. No one misses such a chance!

I don't understand insisting over Vinales. For me, Pedrosa and Rossi team was the foundation of dream retirement for Rossi. Finally, he was getting a teammate who doesn't cut his space, so he could give it his best. These 2 guys could've pushed each other to the limit, in a sportsman sort of way, and Pedrosa can get his first championship too, probably.

Both are adults and in near age groups. To put it in context, Rossi was a teen at 16, when Vinales was born.

Even Astrologically, Pedrosa (Libra) and Rossi (Aquaris) are better suited in nature, both being Air signs, than Rossi with Vinales, who is a Capricorn.

Anyhow, it seems guys, your vision may soon come true... Maybe... Just maybe for now... Check this link:-

Fair enough. My voice was more towards encouraging new talent. Dani is well past his best but still has the potential. Again the only thing against him is even with a factory Honda machines Marquez always performs better. So I would think twice before getting Pedrosa on board. I am just being a fan of Yamaha here and hoping we have two competitive riders. Between I hate to see Lorenzo go.

Dani will be wise to do what Hayden did and retire from GP with Honda and take on Michael VdM's Honda seat in WSBK alongside Nicky Hayden. A world title in WSBK is more plausible. Just look at today's WSBK Sepang race 2 result.

VdM is rumored to make his switch to GP alongside Marquez for the 2018 season. Its a perfect swap. The guy rides like Stoner sliding his Fireblade through the corners.

Yeah, that is true though. I agree mostly.
Vinales might work wonders on the Yamaha... And if I'm not wrong, Yamaha is aware about this too.
A lot of talent fills up the midrange of MotoGP, just because they never got a hot funded factory seat, and an ideal machine to work with..

Yeah, Lorenzo is a sort of loss, but you will admit that this will bring about peace & unity in the Yamaha garage, isn't it? The general environment at Yamaha will improve, unlike earlier, when even Rossi and Lorenzo's mechanics talking to each other would've raised eyebrows.
I'm overall happy, and Yamaha should choose a suitable (if not that capable) replacement, I'm sure.

Pedrosa is more about safety, attempt to be consistent more than performing, and dependency on luck though. Its a tricky formula... Who knows how to win the championship with this formula?

Re: Rumour - Dani Pedrosa close to Yamaha switch?

Personally, I would like to see Vinales stay with Suzuki and Pedrosa switch to Yamaha.

Vinales can most def win on the Suzuki. I don't really think he has got a better chance on the M1.

There's no way I see him (MV) gelling with the M1 the way Lorenzo took to it from his first race.

And I'd be very surprised if he won a championship on the M1 before 2019.

The ONLY (realistic) contenders for MotoGP world champion for the next three seasons (including 2016) are Rossi, Marquez & Lorenzo. (In that order)

Dani might have a shot at a championship on the M1.

                    Stoner is a Libra too.

Honestly, Hayden had no choice. Pedrosa on the other hand, has a very real chance at a factory Yamaha M1 ride.

And, think about it, If Marquez made a fuss about Stoner for ONE race... i don't think he'd be happy with VDM signing up for the second Repsol seat.

And 2018 is two years away, Marquez could be "not racing with Honda" come 2018.

Maybe Dani evaluated the fact that he would be turned into the next GP villain once he starts beating his new team mate fair and square if he switched.
He didn't have anything to gain with the switch, he'd still be a #2 rider there.

Anyway Pedrosa confirms he will stay back with HRC till the end of 2018. Signs a contract.

Dang! If a motoGP championship ever came down to the final race at Valencia... i think I'd cheer for Dani.

Don't think that's going to happen with Dani on the Repsol.

The world's best #2 rider tho. Dang!
