UM Motorcycles opens its first dealership in Delhi

The dealership will be operational all seven days, from 10:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M.
The dealer has not yet opened its service center but sources say that it should be up in less than a week. While Delhi-ites can have a look and probably even test drive the bikes, while Mumbaikars need not worry as its neighboring city Thane will also see the inauguration of the UM Showroom early next week under the Soham Motors dealership.

The commando reminds me of Captain America's motorcycle from his first movie

Wow. xBhp news is sure slowing down. I remember seeing the dealership open and running at CP on 23rd of May (Didnt visit though, as I was in an auto, and just saw of from the outside).

The news is atleast a month late.

Wowww. Yeh to bahut chalna chahiye. Looks like what RE could never become. It's next iteration.! RE just stuck to its traditional ways and could only come up with the Himalayan after 2 decades.
If priced right, UM could be a great classic motorcycle brand.[emoji4] [emoji16]

^^ I know this is an old post, but this mindset is worrisome on many levels.

RE's styling is contemporary British - it is compact and rims and tank have proportions that combine bulk and tight spaces beautifully in a British way. One example is how closely and tightly the mud guards follow the dimensions of the wheels.

It could have NEVER evolved into anything that resembles an American Cruiser with long flowing lines and a vast size. And in hindsight, UM has been ridiculously over-pricing it's products. They thought they could make it here like they did in some less evolved Latin and Asian markets - but the bulk of their consumers seem to be coming from the cow belt and younger people who don't know much about motorcycling history or value it. Other than that, their sales in India have been dismal - especially since they got called out by multiple people online for their "USA originated" marketing campaign.

Re: UM Motorcycles opens its first dealership in Delhi

UM doesn't seem to be suffering very much, to be honest, based on its relentless expansion and growth at the moment.

Let's also give credit where credit is due: It's a very gutsy, risky move to start up a company that ONLY sells cruisers (and big, heavy ones by Indian standards) in a market where cruisers are either ultra-luxury (Harley) or dominated by Royal Enfield, where everyone and their uncle rides sensible little commuter machines. UM honestly have more guts as a company than global giants Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha, who sell amazing cruisers of all sizes all over the world, but can't be bothered to try the Indian market, instead keeping it safe by only selling us commuter vehicles like our parents and grandparents would ride.

I'm just saying, kudos to them for taking the risk, and it is undoubtedly a risk to put all one's chips on a single category. UM didn't even play it safe by offering a scooter or two to hedge their bets and guarantee a profit - they went all in. And I'm happy it seems to be paying off. The UM bikes are still a tad underpowered for my taste personally, but those that ride them are certainly not complaining. UM all but single-handedly proved that there is a hunger in the market for cruisers that are fun, comfortable and actually affordable for everyday use. Even Harley-Davidson, the supposed worldwide king of the cruiser category, can't be bothered selling the Street 500 in India despite selling it everywhere else in Asia, because god forbid they lose their "premium, this-is-for-super-rich-guys-only" precious reputation. But I digress.

Understand I say all this from an unbiased point of view - I ride a KTM 390, but briefly rode a UM for a couple of months and had no major complaints. Sure, it might not be the best cruiser in motorcycling history, and their over-the-top "we're so American that we poop obesity" marketing is kind of bonkers and ripe for parody. But I admire them as a company for taking the risk.
