Panigale 959 price hike in Bangalore!

Hello folks, like so many other people across India, I too have been waiting for the baby Panigale, and the moment I was informed that the showroom (VST Ducati) is accepting advanced bookings, I rushed to the showroom with a blank cheque and a wide grin on my face.
Without riding the bike, knowing the price or even the delivery date, I placed my trust in VST Ducati and booked a 959 with a token advance of Rs. 1 lakh.

After a few days I received an email with the final price, inclusive of all taxes and charges; it came to a total Rs.16,24,094 on road. I immediately scrounged around for the funds, after all I knew it is going to cost roughly around this figure. Now that I am all set with the finances and ready to make the final payment, I got a call from the showroom last week and was informed that due to a clerical error, the wrong price was sent to everyone and the actual price on road is Rs. 16,89,824. It is a full Rs.65,730 more now!

I can't speak for others, but that is a lot of money and I have half a mind to contact the Ducati higher ups and demand that they stick to the price they originally announced. But before I do this, I would like to know what the other prospective buyers(if any on this site) are planning to do?? Is everyone lying back and taking this or is anyone else willing to stand up for what is right?

Also, any inputs/advice from XBHPians in general will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Srinag, Ankit here and hello everyone... i am an oldtimer here been in xbhp since 2007 and a biker all my life as blore_boy mentioned i have taken up the effort to ask Ducati why is there a hike and a miscalcualtion and why should customers bear the cost ? do you guys think its fair?

i have written to Ducati India MD Mr. Ravi Avalur and im awaiting response from him. hope things get sorted as i dont think anyone would want to pay extra for someone elses mistakes

Hello Ravi,


I am a very passionate biker my name is Ankit Sahney, all my life I have dreamed of owning a Ducati and live through the ownership experience as I consider it a big honor and privilege to own a piece of motorcycling history. Its not about the money or that these bikes bring a whole lot of glam / stardom to the owner. Its just a passionate biker owning and experiencing his dream to be associated with a historic brand known for its values its legacy and rich motorcycle heritage. I would pay my hard earned money to own something like that. As it stands for something.


With this in mind I write to you to bring to light my disappointment on some significant issues regarding sales personnel at VST Ducati Bangalore and the miscalculation in pricing done by VST Ducati Bangalore for the 2016 Ducati 959 Panigale. last month with a lot of happiness and an ecstatic smile i booked the 959 paying 1L as booking amount at that time the price mentioned was 13.82 ex-showroom and 16.32L OTR. Deliveries where promised in september. Now apparently the sales guys at VST Ducati have made a mistake in price calculation and quoted a 47k INR price increase which brings the bike to OTR cost of 16.89L this is being told to me now when the mistake could have been picked up a long long time ago. Let me iterate it for you if I have to compare Ducati India website the price is seen as 13.97L ex-showroom Delhi as old as may / June when the bike was launched at IBW this year. and price of ex-showroom bike offered in Bangalore was 13.82L written in the sheet given to me. This obviously cannot be as if you take into consideration the taxes and transport overheads. Bangalore prices would be higher than Delhi (Pictures for both are attached)


Now the sales guy Mr. Nagananda is calling me everyday in an effort to make me pay this deficit to them and in return he offered some deal on unwanted accessories about touring bag and casing. which i really dont need and i will end up paying much much more. He also said there 6 to 8 bikes coming if you pay full cash I can order another bike and you would have your bike delivered fast. I appreciate the point of him trying to say it is his mistake but he also had the audacity to tell me he could have lied to me and said its the prices which prevail at the time of sale as per policy. This is really not appreciated a point like this can come out anytime and because of Ducati past troubles he is being asked to talk to all customers and rectify it. Is this the way the sales at Ducati speak?. Apparently the accessories are old stock/wrong ordered parts which they want to give these off so they are trying to strike a deal which is both unnecessary and totally unfair. On top of that the sales guy is not ready to listen. How can you recruit people with such attitude? the sales guys also said that its not Ducati India’s mistake its Ducati VST bangalore's mistake. For a customer the brand matters I would look at Ducati at the end of the day and the brand suffers the most.


A few years ago in 2011 when i tried to book the Monster 796, the Bangalore dealership was bad with similar arguments and stories cancelled the deal and bought a Yamaha fz1. Everything went out the window for the Ducati India and now again issues are persistent with the dealerships. My dismay is that why dint they do the homework right and why in the end they have to behave in such and expect the customer to accept their mistake. I work for Bosch India i too have responsibilities and if i had made a mistake like this i would loose my job. and no customer accepts these mistakes. I am in talks with all of the customers who have booked the 959 and I know for a fact no one is willing to pay the extra cost. And no one has given full cash. I am sure you are as much responsible for the reputation of Ducati in India as are the dealers and you would expect that nothing this taken in hindsight to tarnish the brand. Looking at the past and current situation I really feel that you have take people to task and make sure the brand name stays intact in India.


In light I expect that there has to a solution to this and I only look up to you for the answers. I hope that this issue is sorted out because it has already left a very bad impression on the customer even before owning the bike.

Ankit, Srinag (@blore_boy ) We have spoken.

Horrendous mistake. Looks like Bangalore and Ducati are jinxed. I have been in touch with the director of VST and Shashank who is head sales of Ducati VST. They have said it was a genuine error, and I guess we believe them and move forward.

The prospective owners are in touch. Other owners too, please get in touch with us. Not just for this but also forming the DOC Bangalore chapter
