The recall has affected 11,280 units of YZF-R3. As per the recall notice due to this oil pump problem, the oil pressure in these motorcycles may not be properly regulated. As a result, the oil pump drive gear may fail and cause the engine to seize from lack of oil supply. If the engine seizes from a lack of oil supply, the rear wheel may lock up suddenly, increasing the risk of a crash.
Yamaha has already notified the owners and dealers have been informed to carry out a replacement of the oil pump free of charge.
Earlier this month, similar recall notice was issued by the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer in India due to defect in the clutch plate pressure and oil pump, which might cause a malfunction.
