  • Dutch Rider sets new fastest wheelie world record at 213.3Mph

    Egbert van Popta, Dutch Rider sets the new record for the world’s fastest wheelie at the Straightliners Motorcycle Wheelie World Championship, held at the Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, England. The fearless rider rode the motorcycle on the back wheel at 213.3mph (343kmph) for 1 kilometre to set the record.

    Egbert van Popta rode a turbo charged Hayabusa at the contest. He surpassed the previous year record of 209.8mph by Gary Rothwell. Rothwell was the second fastest this year at 206mph.

    The Dutch Rider broke the world record in his second attempt. There were around 40 other participants in the competition coming from the UK, France, Holland, Ireland and the USA.

    This was the 11th year of the Motorcycle Wheelie World Championship. For setting the record, participants have to complete a full kilometre on the back wheel with the fastest exit speed recorded marking the winner.
