    Determined to fight back and find its lost glory, Benelli has restructured their 2016 lineup and has included a couple of motorcycles that have a huge potential particularly with respect to the Indian market.


    The first bike that needs attention here is the all new Benelli TRK 502 - the adventure touring motorcycle for those who love to munch miles. The TRK 502 employs an all new twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid cooled, EFI, double camshaft 500 cc engine wrapped in a traditional Benelli steel trellis frame that produces a peak power output of 48 BHP at 8500 rpm and a torque of 45 Nm at mere 4500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and is controlled by a hydraulic clutch.

    True to its touring nature, the Benelli TRK 502 has a huge tank which provides a fuel capacity of 20 liters. There is also an LED headlight on offer. The ground clearance is 230 mm. The bike has an unladen weight of 210 kg. The seat height will be 815 mm. Braking will be taken care of by 320 mm twin floating disk at the front and a 260 mm single disk at the rear. ABS will be a standard. The bike also employs 17 inches rim at the front and rear. Pirelli Angel 120/70-17 and 160/60-17 tyres are mounted to complete this package. There is an adjustable upside down front fork and monoshock at the rear, which provide a suspension travel of 150 mm at the front and rear.















    Styling wise, you cannot help notice a bit of the BMW R1200GS in the TRK502, but we are not complaining. In fact, we will be spending many sleepless nights thinking about when we get to actually ride it, though Benelli says that the TRK502 will be launched in the second half of 2016. There definitely exists a huge (relatively speaking) market for this genre of motorcycles that has been left untapped by the manufacturers, though RE will soon be bringing its Himalayan and will definitely have the first mover advantage. But if DSK-Benelli manages to bring this bike to India and price it competitively, they surely have a winner in their hands.

    Provided it costs 4-ish ex-showroom (the 600i is 5.5 ish)

      Can someone comment on the compression ratio : 11.5 : 1 and the quality for fuel to be used with India in perspective?

        93 RON and above. In short, Shell super, jet fuel etc. Same as most SBKs. Running on normal 91 RON would only reduce the power on tap without causing much damage.

                as a concept and on paper the bike is good and has a huge potential, specially in india.

                But

                is this a pre production model or is it chinese manufacturing, because pics show ugly welds and improper finishing along with not so good plastic quality. (my personal view)

                coupled with overall quality concerns, and factors like maintenance cost, quality of service (at service center), reliability, technology, which is unknown to many, in my opinion, it is still dicey.

                although i hope that it turns out to be a really good bike at good price, so that we indians can enjoy an affordable, middleweight, adventure touring bike.

                a few things, the description says pirelli angel tyres, whereas pic shows spoke wheels with different tyres, so there is an option available in tyres and wheels.

                it says ABS, but abs ring is missing.

                can we please have complete side profile pic from both sides.

                145 MM suspension travel, mean it is not an adventure tourer. may be its a good tourer (better than other street bikes) or a street bike dressed up as an adv. tourer.

                  Is it Tubeless or Tube Type Tire? Those cross spokes probably indicate tubeless tires.

                  The only downside I can see looking at the specs is 48 bhp vs 210 kg unladen weight. With panniers, battery, consumables and full fuel this baby shall weigh close to 230 kg at least. Not a very good power to weight ratio I'm afraid.

                      Honda CB500X is 196 kg including all standard equipment, required fluids and full tank of fuel ready to ride V/S Benelli TRK 502 which is 210 unladen weight my friend.
                      Compare the curb weight of Honda and Benelli, it close to 35 KGS extra you're talking about.

                          Correction Noted. It still weighs more than Honda even if you don't add the weight of panniers and luggage boxes. Where did you read 201 kg? I read the unladen weight in the xbhp post as 210 kg.

                          Here we are comparing 196 kg wet weight vs 210 dry weight. It's still a substantial difference, don't you think?

                            It includes......................

                            • Body, fenders, permanently-attached boxes, and body parts.
                            • Oil in the motor, a radiator full of water, and weight of five gallons of fuel.
                            • Any machinery, equipment, or attachment which functions as a part of the body or vehicle in its normal operation.


                            5 gallons is 19 litres. So give and take, its 15 kg heavier than a 500x. But it has panniers, and the 500x does not, so............. But still, lets give benefit of doubt to the mighty honda, and say the Benelli is still 10 kg heavier than the Honda. Are you really going to make a fuss over 10 kg.
