  • KTM 125, 200 and 390 to be phased out and completely replaced by new models by 2016 end

Stefan Pierer tells CNBC TV18 that the current lineup of Dukes/RCs will be phased out by late 2016 itself i.e. less than 12 months from now.
The bikes will be replaced by a completely new range built by Bajaj.

I read about this on Overdrive : New KTMs Coming 2017, Husqvarnas Could Follow - Overdrive

Here is the original interview video: Will KTMs new model launches be a bright spot for Bajaj - Moneycontrol.com

Now we all know how Bajaj just loves to discontinue bikes and keep launching new ones - so this was expected but came a bit earlier.

Read the same in the cyclenews' interview of Mr. Stefan Pierer, reason he cited was the stricter Euro norms applicable from 2017. He said, the new lineup would be developed ground-up.

they are not discontinuing ktm, they are merely replacing models.. and it could be a good move.
i dont see bajaj/ktm giving up on the lucrative 200-400cc market any time soon.

Dunno. How can Bajaj discontinue the KTM models, esp the Duke/RC 390 which offer tremendous vfm.! They have been introduced at such a price point that many gud bikes don't even stand a chance against the duo. The fact that they are sold for around Rs.5 lacs in US guarantees that no other premium motorcycle manufacturer will be able to match the price-value equation anytime soon. This guarantees them a virtual monopoly in the segment [emoji14]eriod:

Why discontinue such a gud thing? Minor improvements are ok. But, discontinuing such a product will not bode well with the existing customers esp when the sales are gud.

Did you read the articles properly? Did you see the word "discontinued" anywhere? If you did see it, upload a screenshot

They are REPLACING the current Gen1 fleet with improved Gen2 bikes. The models will be the same.

RC390 2016 model is the first one to get replaced with improvements such as:

              • Larger 320 mm front brake disc
              • Side mounted aluminium exhaust to comply with Euro 4 emission norms
              • Slipper clutch
              • 12 mm thicker seat cushion so it's become more comfortable
              • Disconnectable ABS system
              • Ride-by-wire technology

did they say that they will not offer vfm products ? i don't think they are stupid enough to do such a thing.
it's a mere upgrade/changes/new platform or whatever you want to call it.
I say its a step forward and i am sure ktm india will continue to provide the best ratio of performance vs price products in India, thanks to the made in India factor.
A lot of folks will talk about quality blah blah.. but am sure these bikes bring on a smile to their owners on whacking the throttle open.. nothing is perfect and change is the only constant.

So, Updated Products, with new names !!! But Why even change the names, when it has already created a bench mark? I believe, its for the sake of global market and not for India.

I Don't think Bajaj-KTM will discontinue any of the bikes. They may make some new changes like Honda & Yamaha do, either it could be technical or cosmetical.

I think they may launch the new adventure series of bikes. And yes we must not forget about the new norm of Indian Govt about compulsory ABS-CBS.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 has been in market for approx a decade and still its being sold. Bajaj doesn't discontinue its best selling cake

This was coming and as expected from a top class company it needs to.Where Apache 200 is being tested vigorously so that it can beat the Duke 200 Sprint timings etc,KTM knows that TVS will be the next big threat to them considering they are tied up with BMW and they will have better bikes compared to other vendors.

KTM i am sure saw it coming so they will replace their existing with even advanced engineering so that by the time Apache 200 is launched to beat Duke 200 which was launched couple of years ago,KTM will have a bike which will again take couple more years for Apache or ther vendors to beat!
