  • Nicky Hayden passes away!

World Superbike rider Nicky Hayden is reported to be in a serious condition in hospital after a collision during a training exercise in Italy.

The 35-year-old American, who won the MotoGP championship in 2006, was cycling on a road along the Rimini coastline on Wednesday afternoon when a road car collided with his bicycle.

The Red Bull Honda rider received some medical attention before being transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the rider remains in a serious condition, with bleeding on the brain and a broken leg and pelvis, with doctors saying he is still too weak to be operated on.

Honda WSBK tweeted yesterday: "Thank you to all Nicky's fans for your support after his accident. He's receiving medical attention in Italy, and we must now be patient.

"The medical teams are working hard, and we will provide updates as soon as they are available."

Hayden currently sits 13th in the Superbike World Championship standings after a 12th-place finish at the Motul Italian Round at Imola on Sunday.

    News Approved

That's terrible news. He is in a medically induced coma as of the latest update with severe damage to the head and spine. Any official information will be given by the hospital only after Nicky's family allows it.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Re: Superbike rider Nicky Hayden in 'serious condition' after being hit by car

Update : WorldSBK rider & the former motoGP champion Nicky Hayden today passed away, succumbing to his injuries. He was hit by a car a few days ago while training on his bicycle in Italy. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remained in a very serious and critical state till now. He had sustained multiple severe injuries, including injury to his head.

The MotoGP Legend was training in Italy after the recently concluded Imola round of the WorldSBK season on his bicycle where he was hit by a car. He was taken to a local hospital but was later referred to the hospital in Cesena for better treatment. He had been in coma since.

Nicky Hayden was one of the most popular riders in the world of motorcycle racing, both among fans and fellow riders. His untimely and tragic demise has left the entire motorcycle community in a very sombre mood and a state of shock and disbelief.

Many of the MotoGP and WorldSBK riders spend a lot of time training on bicycles. The dangers of cycling on public roads is forever increasing, with drivers getting addicted to using their smart phones. Maverick Vinales said that he might give up road cycling after Hayden's accident, a risk which every cyclist faces. Last week Tour de France winner Chris Froome was knocked off his bike by a car. He was lucky to have come out unscather. This is an increasing trend, especially in the western world.

Nicky's death has left a big void in the world of motorcycle racing, which cannot be filled. We wish his family and friends strength to cope up with this loss.

Rest in peace Nicky, you will always be missed.

Rest in peace Nicky. I would like to know what happened to the driver? Did he/she is behind the bars or just license revoked? Any news on that part?

From what I read in a report, it was not necessarily the Car Driver's mistake either. The car had a tyre burst which made the car wear to Nicky's direction.

                  Really unfortunate and sad!!

                  RIP Nicky.
