my guess - it will be a single cylinder 400cc or so making about 35 bhp and good torque will end up fighting the Dominar because RE sales happen due to the "vintage" and the emotional influence & not logical influence. RE itself tried the Himalayan, something different, well made & well received, but still not selling like the classic or the bullets.. that's if my info is correct.. at the end, if they fail to make a dent, pointless, by then triumph-bajaj will have something in market already & I love the way the heat is turning up.. however, I doubt any of them will make any dent to REs sales as long as the minds of people are not changed.. not bashing any co. here, RE is just cashing into it.. any business would.. Honda and the Japs cash into the scooters.. Bajaj is the only co. that I see is making some good stuff available here.. TVS-BMW - just wow.. made all our hopes high.. it's like grandma is making a cake and usually she takes 1 hour to make, but this time she is taking 3 hours to make is perfect, and we are waiting mouth watering, and when it arrives, it's given to the neighbor's kid and not you.. and you watch the neighbor's kid eating it, made from your house, but you can't eat/touch it.. just stare at it mouthwatering.. I hope Bajaj-Triumph get some decent twin cylinder tourer of 500cc at about the price of 2.8 lakhs making a power of 50 bhp & 40 nm of torque with a big tank of about 20 litres.... and please don't add the all-digital display, please give us the analogue tachometer.. we miss that badly... 2-tone display, we are perfectly happy with that... just my opinion... but if you want to make something work, please do proper testing before throwing it out to the public & making them guinea pigs..

live long.. live happy.. that's the best revenge that can be served to the people who hate you..

Why don't they bring the Rebel 300 instead of developing a new 400cc motorcycle?

Please find attached Youtube links for Interview with Rajiv Bajaj by CNBC News Channel. Its an interesting interview in two parts.
This will definitely increase the competition within the market.

          (Part 1)

          (Part 2)

Re: Triumph UK announces a new partnership with Bajaj Auto for mid range motorcycles

Even though the Press release says for emerging markets, I think the main intention is for Triumph to enter the A2 segment in Europe which is where all the action is. We saw the same with TVS-BMW partnership for G310 which may not come to India. With more and more emission restrictions in Euro VI etc, it is more and more difficult for manufcaturers to make machines with big engines that are exciting enough and meet regulations. So everybody wants a part of this action(<47 bhp machines) which is probably the only segment in Europe that see upward growth every year.

I suspect to see a Street Single first with 390cc. people hoping to see Bonneville 400, or tiger 400 may be disappointed or have to wait longer. And I don't think RE has anything to worry from this partnership.

By the time the enter the market would have already been taken over by Bajaj and Co.

Re: Triumph UK announces a new partnership with Bajaj Auto for mid range motorcycles

                Some more details:

“The two organisations have been talking to each at a senior level since 2007,” says Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer at Triumph. “Both organisations felt that the opportunity would help us both grow internationally. However, we’ve only been developing this particular partnership for the last six to nine months.

Triumph also confirmed that we won’t be seeing a return of the 250cc singles that they had previously developed. The so-called Street Single and Daytona 250 were scheduled to enter production in 2015 but were put on indefinite hold.

The motorcycles we are developing will be much more mid-capacity,” says Stroud, which begs the question as to what we can expect? Ravikumar says: “The new motorcycles will combine the iconic heritage of Triumph with the back end efficiencies of Bajaj, thus creating a unique product unavailable to both partners.”

This is going to be an epic war! Expect a 'Bullet' killer in the future.

[I like to imagine that somewhere in deep corners of Tokyo, Honda is forging a Japanese sword to take on the big guns of Britain]
Don't expect much from Honda 2-wheelers. Their attitude is very surprising in a rising market like India. There is not even any attempt to do anything new - they are simply playing safe and making cosmetic variants of existing stuff (a policy used very successfully even now by Hero Motors).

In India, no matter how much criticism people direct at Bajaj, that is the only two wheeler company that has brought performance to the masses. It would be great to see 400-500 cc twin cylinder Bonneville type retro motorcycles from Bajaj-Triumph combine that will be just above Royal Enfield's single cylinder offerings but below upcoming twin cylinder offerings of RE. Price of about Rs 2.5-3.2 Lakhs would be perfect.

Also, the performance enthusiast in me wants to see revival of the brand PULSAR from Bajaj - so it would be good to see Pulsar 675NS and 675RS variants partially based on older Triumph Street Triple/Daytona pair but at much more affordable price (about Rs 5-6 lakhs would be perfect for such products). Anyway now the older tooling of Triumph for 675cc variants could become available at much cheaper price to Bajaj.

Bajaj should take Triumph engine+electronics and should build rest of the stuff in India - so nearly 70% localization if not more. The bike should draw upon Pulsar heritage - it may even be good idea to revive design of older Pulsar 180 which had round headlamp and come up with a naked street fighter with relatively shorter gearing for perfect rowdy biking!!

                      Let's hope for the best.
