Earlier the American military had shown an interest in using E-Bikes for warfare. Now popular electric bike manufacturer Zero Motorcycles had been selected to produce this for the Americans. Four years later the Russians have jumped onto the bandwagon.
Why E-Bikes for military use?
E-bikes will serve military operations in the best way possible because it is silent, one of the most important things for stealth operations! These bikes have been designed to move around rough terrain and for reconnaissance, search operations and raids, all this without the racket of internal combustion engines! The other advantages of E-bikes are that there is no need of transporting fuel to remote locations, a massive problem for conventional motorcycles which run on highly flammable petrol. Also, E-bikes are smaller and lighter which makes them easier for transportation to various locations.
The army version e-bike can reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The power reserve on one charge is 100 km. Whereas the police version e-bike has a power reserve of 150 kilometres from one charge and a maximum power of 15 kW.
The manufacturer has planned to produce 50 E-bikes for the Moscow police to be used in the 2018 World Cup and later will produce more for mass events such as bicycle parades, marathons, park and nature protection zones etc.
The AK47 produced by Kalashnikov is legendary among weapon manufacturers. Its unmatched reliability has seen it being used decades after it was first introduced. We wonder if the Russian company will be able to achieve the same reputation with their electric motorcycles!
