Only recently, Suzuki India MD, Satoshi Uchida had announced that the motorcycle maker will shift focus from the mass market towards the fast-growing scooter and premium motorcycle space in the country. In an interview, he said, “Since we are a late entrant, we need to have a different approach. Our immediate focus is on the fast-growing scooter space and premium motorcycles. Our aim is to grab 10% share in the segments that we operate. Once we reach scale, then we may look at the mass market.”

Now, a little birdie has informed us that Suzuki India will be launching a cruiser styled 150cc motorcycle as early as next month. He mentioned that the bike’s styling borrows influences from the 1,800cc Suzuki Intruder, however, will be propelled by a 154.9cc, single-cylinder engine which it will share with the Gixxer. Good for 14.8PS @ 8,000 rpm and 14Nm @ 6,000 clicks, expect the motor to be tuned for strong initial and mid-range power under this new motorcycle’s tank. The insider also tells us that production has already commenced at the factory, where the first lot of motorcycles will be shipped to dealers in the first week of November. A formal launch will happen just after.

In the current scheme of things, this rumoured motorcycle will compete against the Bajaj Avenger 150, which, going by the number of examples which can be spotted on our streets, is already quite popular. We expect the motorcycle to offer a relaxed, feet forward riding stance, loads of chrome, and a shiny paint job. Powered by that smooth 150cc motor, it should make for a value offering for those who lust after cruisers. Such a move by Suzuki Motorcycles India could also make Yamaha mull about injecting new life into their once popular Enticer brand. As of now, we can only speculate though.

Replace with a stronger engine, say 250 cc and above and they've got a strong contender in the RE/Dominar segment

Suzuki is probably the only manufacturer right now offering ABS in 150cc bikes too.. well done Suzuki!! Hopefully others will take notice and start offering too.

If they launch it with 250 CC/20BHP or higher engine, I'll buy it. 150 CC would be a disappointment...
It has been a long standing wish to see a reliable cruiser from Japanese manufacturers - Honda, Yamaha or Suzuki.

A 150cc Intruder? Seriously? What, they wanted to compete with the smaller Avenger 150 but didn't want to go all-out?

So what are the future offerings from bike manufacturers? I know, let's play a guessing game and vote on likely future releases. Here are some ideas to get us started, feel free to add your own suggestions:

            * Suzuki GXR with a microscopic engin... oh wait, they already did that, nevermind, scratch that

            * Aprillia RSV 0.014 with enticing optional extras like a horn that blasts your favourite Bollywood song

            * Triumph Bonneville city commuter edition, 85 cc, with complementary "DAD'S GIFT" sticker

            * Ducati Panigale 125 cc touring scooter with optional extras like stylish Italian-designed stepney

            * Honda Goldwing-Navi, 50cc, with innovative built-in bicycle pedals to save petrol and/or for use when going over speedbreakers / uphill climbs

            * MV Augusta Brutale 109 (not to be confused with the 1090) hybrid bicycle, with optional baseball cards to place in wheel spokes to create real motorcycle sound or your choice of cargo basket

            * Kawasaki Ninja 12 cc roller skates with built-in motors for up to three minutes of use

            Vote now!

I'll surely get the 125cc Ducati Panigale scooter!
On a lighter note, markets like India are price sensitive and manufacturers are targeting that sweet spot of 150cc and 75k to 1.5Lakh price range. Yeah, it may be underpowered but it may not be a slouch

                  Anyways all the best Suzuki.

I like it, from some angles. That thick rear section with, what looks like a mudflap from the Gixxer.. I'm waiting to see how it looks. the angle of the forks make me think that it's a different body on a Gixxer frame?

I am ok with giving a bigger bike look to a small capacity motor cycle.
We should remember the fact that's how we got the likes of Gixxer, fzs etc which I feel would satisfy the needs of 98 percentage of biking community who look for practicality and occasional fun on open roads under legal speed limits. if this innovation is not there to provide new features to a small motorcycle I think we might just have to satisfy us with nth iteration of boring 100cc splendor engine.
I believe in the fact if a manufacturer needs money he should run behind volumes and the market of the small to medium capacity motorcycles is huge in India.
By the way is the new lunch scheduled on Nov 7 as other forums are reporting?

I hope it looks better in person than in pics. But it looks too bloated and a cheap wannabe. Designers in India has to learn that proportions are what holds the design together not cramming too many lines and details in a tight space.

That is one freaking awesome package from auzuki, they hit the nail right on the head and seems to doing everything right these days.
They are only concentrating on the market share and coming up with the perfect bikes awesome.
