  • 2018 British Talent Cup Calendar Announced

The 2018 British Talent Cup provisional calendar has been announced.

The British Talent Cup is motorcycle racing championship to find and nurture young talent and to prepare them for the global stage of motorcycle racing,
MotoGP and WSBK. Applications by young riders were invited in May this year and in August the list of riders to participate in the BTC was announced after a rigorous selection process.

These riders will have the opportunity to showcase their riding talent in front of the best in the business while at the same time learning the intricacies of racing by competing against the best in the country. The BTC was fuelled by the increasing number of Spanish and Italian riders in the world championship. Both countries have a long history of racing and have a very strong national series.

The Spanish series more so, where riders from various nationalities participate, including MotoGP champions like Casey Stoner. The Italian series has not seen the same sort of drive in the last decade or so, but thanks to Valentino Rossi and his racing school, there is once again an influx of Italian riders on the global change.

British riders are doing very well in WorldSBK with Jonathan Rea, Tom Sykes and Chaz Davies dominating the series, with others filling in top spots as well. Even MotoGP has Cal Crutchlow, Sam Lowe0, Scott Redding and Bradley Smith representing
Britain in the pinnacle of motorcycle racing. But the future was looking difficult for the country, as it was getting increasingly challenging for young riders to be able to train and start off a career in road racing.

Dorna took this challenge very seriously and recruited Alberto Puig and Jeremy McWilliams as Talent Promotion Director and British Talent Scout respectively. Puig is famous for spotting talent early and bringing them up through the ranks. Both Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa grew under the capable nurturing of Puig. With these two fine racers, young British riders have a very strong chance of making it big on the global stage.

Those who do well in the BTC will get a chance to ride for the British team in Moto3 and from there the sky is the limit. It is a fantastic initiative for young riders of the country.

America, another country well known for its road racing talent has seen the number of riders dwindling in the world series thanks to a badly managed national championship. Since the last few years with the introduction of MotoAmerica and the capable leadership of Kevin Schwantz, things are once again looking up in
    USA.

    It is essential to find
talent young as is evident from most of the riders on the MotoGP grid, who started racing from when they were 4! But what about riders in India? How would they be able to make it to the world stage?

Stoner's parents moved from Australia to Europe, so that
they son could get a serious shot at being a world champion one day. Is it absolutely necessary for someone to move to Europe?

Probably, but we hope not soon. What with the introduction of the Suzuki and Red Bull 'Road to Rookies Cup' being held here. With a similar format, the best riders move on to the global stage and they get the opportunity to be mentored by K. Rajini.

The tracks, weather, motorcycle culture and the sheer number of talented young riders would probably make it imperative for someone wanting to join the big league to shift to Europe.
