  • Yamaha teases 2017 YZF R6

Didn't know what else to post along with a teaser so I put a Young Machine magazine cover(not accurate description) along with the following teaser: No details are out yet regarding specifications. Rumors only suggest that it could resemble the new R1. And the old spy pics were discussing a triple replacing the inline-4. Nothing concrete yet.

With the price gap between the R1 and the R6 visibly large now, there is no reason for Yamaha to stay out of this market.

Earlier the R1 was priced between 16-18 lakhs. Now with the new R1 soaring in the high 20 lakh range, the R6 could slot in against the Daytona, 959 and the F3.

That's in the Indian market. And as far as i think, there are not much chances of R6 being launched here.

Secondly, won't the customers want the same latest electronic package as the R1, so how will the costs be low? Of course the company can compromise on a lot of things, but I wonder what standing will the R6 have today anyways.

Daytona 675 destroys the R6 in both power and torque curves, obviously for no fault of Yamaha. Plus lesser weight and amazing handling. ZX6R 636cc isn't going soft either.
YZF R6 was the master of high revs during the 2000-10's decade. What today, specially after the Euro 4 regulations where the 675 will become 765, but the R6 will (probably) stick to being a 599cc inline 4?

They'll have to market it very good, and the product has to be amazing too. They have to be the best performing in the present Euro 4 certified 599cc category, or make their own category and be the best at it. But, at least there won't be a CBR 600RR, so that's one ray of light for R6...
Still, I hope there's some strong USP of the master of revs, when it comes out in 2017.

PS: I'm lucky enough to have ridden both the Daytona 675 and the Street Triple, but not the YZF R6. I have no idea what improvements can you make to it, except of course the detuning, but we're not talking about Indian market anyways, right?
