  • TVS launches the new Apache RTR 160 4V starting at 81,490/-

TVS Motor Company has launched the all new Apache RTR 160 4V. This is TVS' second motorcycle on the 4V platform (First one being the RTR 200 4V). TVS has redesigned the new bike and it is significantly different from the older Apache RTR 160 both mechanically and visually. It takes its design cues from the TVS Draken concept and the existing Apache RTR 200 4V. The Price starts from Rs. 81,490 for Carburetor variant and Rs. 89,990 for the EFI variant (Ex-showroom Delhi).

    ENGINE

The new Apache RTR 160 4V features a 159.7 cc single cylinder, 4-Stroke, 4-valve, oil cooled unit. This new engine is mated to a 5-Speed gearbox. The Apache RTR 160 4V is available in both Carbuerator and Electronic Fuel injection (EFI) variants. TVS has christened the EFI variant Apache RTR 160 Fi 4V. The EFI variant makes 16.8 Ps of power at 8000 rpm and 14.8 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. The carb variant is good for 16.5 ps of power at 8000 rpm and 14.8 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. TVS claims that the engine is the most powerful in its class. It will accelerate the new Apache from 0-60 in 4.8s (EFI) (4.73s for Carb). The claimed top speed is 114 kmph for the EFI variant and 113 kmph for the Carb variant.

    CHASSIS

The new motorcycle features TVS’ patented Double-Cradle Split Synchro Stiff Frame Design. The bike gets monoshock rear suspension which is said to be tuned in accordance to the inputs from TVS Racing riders. This will supposedly provide the new Apache with sharp handling and agility. The EFI variant of the motorcycle will have disc brakes at both the front and the rear tyre. The Carb variant however will have Front Disc-Rear Drum and Front Disc-Rear Disc options.

    DESIGN

As mentioned earlier the new Apache looks quite similar to the bigger RTR 200 4V. The motorcycle features a fully-digital speedometer with a plethora of functions such as 0-60 time recorder, lap time recorder etc. Apart from this the new Apache features checkered flag decals on the tank to pay homage to the INMRC race winning motorcycle (Group B RTR 165).
The new Apache will be available in three colors namely – Racing Red, Metallic Blue and Knight Black

Mr. Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, said, “The TVS Apache series has always embodied pure racing performance. This Racing DNA is seen across the entire range from RTR 160 to the RR 310. With the launch of the all new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, we have created an exciting product that will appeal to the customers around the world.”

Speaking at the launch of the new TVS Apche RTR 160 4V Mr. KN Radhakrishnan, President and Chief Executiove Officer, TVS Motor Company, said, “In over 10 years of its existence, the TVS Apache RTR series has created phenomenal customer delight. The new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is an exciting addition to the TVS Apache RTR series. It is the most powerful 160cc moytorcycle in India and embodies the latest racing technology with best-in-class performance. We are confident that the new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V will set the precedence with its superior performance and dynamic racing look.”

On paper, seems like a best package in its segment. If the real world performance is also the same then its going to give a tough competition.
Just noticed, the cluster back-lit is in different colour for different colour bike.

WOW - Looks awesome. The previous RTR 160 was no slouch even with current competition & this one is gonna raise the bar definitely.

Beautiful single piece handlebar. Given the features its definitely a tougher competition for the Gixxer. If this variant launches with FI+ABS in near future, it will definitely kill the Gixxer market.

Also in the pic below, either the bike is in between gears or theres no Neutral indicator. Whats the deal with that gear indicator?

Check gear sensor as it has been disconnected for some reason.

So after 4 years TVS has brought a real rival to topple the segment benchmark Gixxer, with three variants at the time of launch itself.

TVS will you deliver them soon though? [emoji39]

The seat looks damn comfortable and better than Gixxer, but the handling might not be as sharp as Gixxer I reckon.

Let's see who becomes the new King.

                Cheers!

They are produced in the mysore factory so production shouldn't be an issue.

Screams quality. Brilliant work from TVS. Most of the screws and nuts/bolts are precoated to prevent corrosion. The engine should have a crank counterbalancer like 200 4V, should be smooth !

Amazing! Especially the Red one looks super good! This RTR160Fi4V Engine makes more power than the previous generation RTR180,which is great! I really hope this has the Balancer Shaft for reduced vibrations,People praised the RTR 200's Refinement by a lot and in this 160cc Segment,Competitors have great Refinement and TVS needs to be sure these new Engines don't vibrate like the previous generation RTRs.Pricing is Perfect too! Quality looks awesome too,But One thing I am worried is that this RTR doesnt have a stainless steel Exhaust,Previous RTRs are known to have them easily rust so Fast that it can fall off anytime.I hope TVS has improved the paint Quality of the exhaust and has given some sort of anti-rust protection.

I think it would have been even better if TVS kept the Carburettor but borrowed the Dual Channel ABS Unit from the RTR180ABS,improve it a bit and give it as an option for this new RTR160 4V (Priced at 95K,Just below the GiXXeR ABS) and discontinue all the previous generation RTRs.Problem is that this can hurt the sales of the Base Variant RTR 200,or hurt the sales of itself as people would just go for a 200 at such dangerously close price. It But in April 2019,They will have ABS due to Government rules. But Maybe they will just continue selling the RTR 180 ABS until 2019.Time will tell.

This is going to be quite popular amongst College Students (like me).

This bike is so proportionate .I'm just drooling over it,Man. Gotta see it live ASAP.

I'm definitely sure the Vibrations have been taken care.
