well as always i think we are over expecting from yahama
and i think for once and for all they should think on a proper design n bring out the bike at once in different types like naked , half fairing
otherwise it will hurts its image n will do no good
at the moment i think yamaha is going in NOKIA lines .......... one product has hardly settled n they bring out another ........ as usual the previous owner will be dissatisfied and angry ....... but who cares ,,, they are no more important ...

i think yamaha wants to capitalize n earn as much as it can before something big from HONDA or SUZUKI comes out and is a serious competition for them

I am going to buy a bike soon and represent a person who likes biking, has an avg built, not a racer or tourer and in my opinion, this bike doesn't look so awesome that it can dent sales of superior bikes just by looks. For me even a stock FZ looks better than this and that is over priced so what can I say about FZ-S or this FZ-R or whatever. Unless Yamaha does significant performance upgrade wasting 80+K on this bike doesn't seem wise to me. But I agree there are many who would just buy it, they are the ones who make a big chunk of FZ buyers in any case. So IMO they will be cutting their own market the most . I still assume that RTR 180 would be a better VFM and better overall bike.
So Yamaha or any other bike makers should do thorough bike upgrade not just stickers or nuts and pieces here and there. That's what I think. R15 or FZ were success because even at high prices those were really well thought and designed bikes and provided some the first things(techs, goodies ..) in Indian bike market.

Man...its not been even a year for FZ-16 and it would already have three variants....that too possessing the same mill underneath.....but what the heck as long as there are buyers..thats what Yamaha is thinking and trying to milk it as much as possible.......personally thogh i would have liked a bigger mill under the hood....lets see maybe it would!!!!!!

Lets play the wait and watch game here shall we? Enough of speculation and ifs and buts. That can go on for pages!

Designing is something which is improvised as time passes by. Hence, almost all vehicles in any market get a face lift regularly and this is not related to number of upgrades that same vehicle receives! This is more likely in case of successful vehicles because it is easier to capitalize on a successful vehicle's design by making it more beautiful as it is already a hit in the market!

FZ16 is a beautiful motorcycle, right? This is its X-factor we can say! And Yamaha increased its X-factor by introducing the FZ-S. Now, as we have seen internationally, there are two versions of Fazer - naked and semi-faired. So Yamaha seems to be doing the same thing with their FZ16, and what's wrong in that? They are simply following their international policy, having two versions of FZ16 - naked and semi-faired Are we cool here?

Personally I feel that psychologically, people won't mind a premium on a semi-faired FZ1 over a naked FZ1 since these two bikes are already so powerful that a slightly higher price just by virtue of style will be acceptable. However, this kind of a premium on a 150cc motorcycle for the mass market will be hard to justify. Only for this reason, I would hope that the upcoming semi-faired FZ16 will have a more powerful engine

Having said that, Yamaha is going on a right path with their FZ16. They are kind of starting the international trend here.

And please, why would the current FZ owners will be pissed? There will always be someone who would purchase a bike just before its upgrade/face-lift is gonna hit in the market. So this argument about exclusivity is pointless, completely baseless. Period.

So what I am saying is. Facelifts happen everywhere, sooner or later. Like it or hate it

The pictures look like someone did a fiberglass mod to standard FZ16. There is not much detailing to indicate if its a new model or factory fitted (did I miss something??).
Somebody mentioned that Yamaha is following their international trend of having the same bike faired and naked. That happens only for European models they bring out here in US because yankies have a thing for fairing, plus the need for wind protection when cruising fast on the vast freeway network in US. It doesn't make sense that Yamaha fits fairing to a 150 cc bike with slower highway speeds and consequently add more weight and affect the performance.

Another thing which strikes me is that we (as in majority of the people who post) do not constitute the mass buyer. We are, at best, a 40,000 strong force, and I guess even that is an extended extrapolation. That (mass buyer) tag goes to the millions and millions of people, who perhaps do not even surf the net. For them, power in a motorcycle is not primary. It is the fuel economy, followed by the looks. Though this order is debatable, it is a safe assumption that this is their ballpark. They want something cheap and good looking which good kilometers to the liter. HH are notorious here on xBHP for catering to that exact audience. Yamaha are simply following suit, albeit in a slightly more refined manner. They are creating miniatures of their international arsenal, and showcasing their strengths based on the brand value.

Creating a different engine segment would involve investment, and other incremental costs which would make even these smaller bikes too expensive for the mass buyer. And Yamaha do not want that. This new FZ, therefore, would be in the same engine capacity as the earlier FZ's. Sadly, the performance freaks are in a minority.

I would say that... Thats a good move by Yamaha... Why... Adding a variety to their FIRST MOST SUCCESSFUL 4-STROKE MODEL in INDIA.
Secondly... Why does everyone cribs about adding more weight to the 153cc bike. Guys FUEL INJECTION... We might be missing this point. This bike might house Fuel Injection.

A counter move by Yamaha to the EXPECTED PULSAR 200-DTS-FI (As per my sources)...

To seperate the customer segment from the present FZ16... Yamaha might give this FZ the high tech Injection system. Its no visible in the pics... The Side panels might be housing a small radiater. What say???

Fuel injection would do the needful to compensate the added weight... And also imporve the performance.... Remember PULSAR 220... 5kgs extra weight & fuel injection.

Also it cant be said presently just by seeing in the pics that... engine is same 153cc... It might be 180-200cc mil... A bored out version of 153cc engine. same platform engine... will help Yamaha to keep the change cost low.

Rest of the spec seems same.. handle bar... rear shocks... tyres. Lets take a weight & watch policy.

So is this the 250 I've been hearing about?

The bike is currenlty being tested... and will be out only by July end....

The mill thats poweing the bike is unknown, it has two additional variants... and the final one which will get selected is secret as always....

Oh and that fibre thingy is very very light
