Similar prices and this one won the MCN shootout, but the S1000RR is, strictly IMO a much better bike, and a billion times better road bike

The S1000RR is definitely a drool bike. What I feel is the next upgrade of it is going to be even more special.
BMW consciously held updating the bike this year, because they wanted to wait for Suzi and Honda to come out first. The next one is going to be their response and I just cant wait to see it.

In my opinion, I wouldn't say the BMW is a billion times better than fireblade even as a road bike. Fireblades are generally known to be the nicest and tamest super bikes and are generally very comfortable and rounded packages. I do admit that with this one, probably Honda has taken weight saving too far maybe as most reports reported the front fairing to be so small, that unless you are probably tucked in, it leads to a lot of wind blast.

In MCN shootout gsxr1000 dominated the most. :-D .that shootout was very interesting almost all aspects are covered of each bike.✩_✩

Yes I did watch!

Like mentioned above, Gsxr scored everywhere , but the final position was kind of biased.

May be am wrong, but I went through some other video showing the Dyno run of GSXR and it showed 190+ output. But here in MCN ,the power output of GSXR was some 184 if am remembering the right figure.


Going through some other motovlogs reviews, the top end on the GSXR seems MENTAL!

The MCN video title says "Road test" meaning they were looking for the best everyday SBK for the money on the streets. The Fireblade from its 1992 inception was always meant to be the road focused SBK and not a dedicated track bike. It was only later that the TT riders took a penchant for its road going ability and turned it into a road racing bike to win so many races. McPint being a larger rider kept winning at the TT on relatively underpowered machinery over the last few years against the more track focused litre bikes in class.

The new SP's semi-active suspension costs $3k if you want to buy them from Ohlins. In auto mode, the advanced algorithms make calculations(100 times per second) to adjust the suspension to the road surface without the need to pull over and adjust them manually. Its no wonder that the least powerful SBK was third fastest around the circuit ahead of many of its 200+ps rivals. Ofcourse the near 10 kg weight difference evened that power deficiency to some extent.

MCN are the Motorbeam of the UK automotive media, despite have a presence for a very long time. The amount of abuse and mockery they get for bizarre reviews and ratings is startling. The only UK based reviewer I truly trust is this channel called 44 Teeth/Baron Von Grumble.

Yes the new Fireblade is a big step forward from Honda, but there is still no way it beats the new GSXR and the tried and tested S1000RR. Perhaps even the maniacal cross plane engined R1 is superior overall.

But goodness me, have Suzuki roared back with the new GSX-R!

Let's see. 7 different riders riding 7 different bikes through the same test road and weather conditions all narrowing down to 1 bike that's best suited for the road or an opinion of a Youtube celebrity motovlogger. That's a tough choice.

Given that Michael Neeves has had a long standing Moto Journalism career, knows his bikes mechanically inside out, is a BMW S1000RR owner(amongst other SBKs) that ends half its lifetime getting thrashed around the British circuits and has ridden everything from a CB125 to a fully kitted up RC213V-S IoMTT bike to Rossi's M1 and Hayden's RC211V. It would be hard to disagree with either him or his 6 other riding mates who've all had seat time on all the top bikes back to back at the same time.

And what's this about MCN being a joke? The last year's BOTY was the Panigale 1299, the year before I think it was the R1. Didn't really hear people calling them a joke back then. Is that a case of sour grapes now?
Their subscription numbers are very good and keep increasing incrementally every other year. That's a better indication of success than say the fanboy rants on their YT videos every year from owners or fans of the non-winning motorcycles. You can see they finally upgraded to a non-potato camera this year after years of filming content on low quality cellphone grade cameras. They are perhaps the largest motorbike magazine publication in the world.

Last but not the least, you really need to notice the title of the video in question. They were evaluating the best road worthy SBK. The Fireblade has always filled that box from day 1. Ergos, seat thickness, legroom are what was being evaluated when they setoff on that long journey in addition to ride quality over the average potholed roads. With the electronic suspension, that was a foregone conclusion.

Absolutely nailed it. MCN is by no means the MotorBeam.
I'd say they are the AutoCar of motorcycles.
The unfortunate thing is that people these days have started liking flashy fly-by and pointless melo-dramatic music over facts and graphs and good ol' print data. (PowerDrift, this is for you)



And 44 teeth, while they are pretty decent, they still behave in a very moto-vloggish manner rather than a reputed media house manner.

What majorly spoiled the Gixxer's case, is the fading brake... Now, a big accusation like this is something which can be verified, and yes, the internet confirms this. There's actually such an issue, due to Suzuki's choice of brakes.

And if my opinion counts, brakes matter more than the bhp. I'd gladly take a litre that has 10 bhp down the leader, if it brakes better.

Had MCN given a big thumbs up to Suzuki for the engine, it would've sent a wrong message. So, let's just accept their verdict, if not outright appreciate it.


Even in the years gone by, I've often read that Suzuki lays down the available horsepower best (to the rear wheel), even when they never had class leading bhp.
I also heard that this time, they have their own Variable Valve Timing (VVT) that operates mechanically.
With a braking upgrade (aftermarket, by the owner himself, if possible), maybe Suzuki will be the best there is, out there?


Till then, let's just accept CBR 1000 RR's brilliance..
