Sir, not sure if you really meant it or used it as a mataphor but I don't think Africa Twin would be even close to CBR650F in terms of pricing.
I would expect it to be in the range of tiger 1200 which is like 15-17 lakhs.

Price should be on par with the Tiger 800 somewhere between 12-13 lakhs ex showroom.
The AT sits just above the F800GS/Tiger 800(insert confusing variant names) in terms of performance despite the additional cubic capacity.

As for the 90/90 tyres, its a limitation of the front wheel being a 21" as compared to the less offroad focussed 110/80 19" on many other ADVs including the titanic aka R1200GSA.

BMW also uses the 90/90 21" front on the 1170cc HP2 Enduro bike:

Sorry, I got massively confused, missed this Africa's global launch and I went by that Twin vs Four analogy, plus this being a CKD... Will edit my post now.

They have a difference of about $3500 in price, and yes by that is reasonable to expect an exshowroom of around 11-13 Lacs...

            No Problems sir.
From what I have heard from Honda guys is that they received more interest in the DCT version. So they might bring the DCT only version in India which will make it costlier.
Although, considering that it is CKD, I feel they should bring the Manual as well, keeping the price as competitive as they can.

From what I have felt till now about Honda's strategy is that they are not bothered about being competitive in pricing or selling a certain number of units every year. They just know that they have good products and they expect their loyal followers will buy these at any cost and Honda seems happy with it. Now, what I do like about Honda is that they do offer complete ownership experience atleast in the cities where the Wing dealerships are. I am no way saying that other's aren't, but Honda does feel solidly built, reliable, cheaper to maintain with extended warranties and stuff.

This with the brand faith does go a long way in pulling customers to their showrooms.

AT launched for 12.9 lakhs ex showroom. Motoroids says that the booking has opened for first 50 customers and that a few of them will be selected randomly at the actual launch of the bike at an outdoor dirt event somewhere in India.

Holy crapalot a Rs 13-lakh scooter. Honda tried earlier with that megascooter VFR1200 and did not learn, with the result that they've launched another scooter, this time in adventure guise.

This can compete with the Emporio Armani scooter purely on price I guess.

"Make in India" but out of reach for most Indian's These guys either want to sell scooters/commuters bikes or top end expensive stuff.. the middle class is out of their books . The current market is seeing a good growth/demand for the 200~400cc category and these guys look the other way.

Re: Honda Africa Twin India launch within 6 months!

Most sports, supercars today have gone DCT and are faster than their manual counterparts.

The Africa Twin's DCT mode also lets you do manual gear changes with the + and - buttons. And if you miss shifting by foot you can also do the shifting with the accessory gear lever.

Currently in the UK, the AT has taken over the GS1200's market and the sales numbers are evenly split between the DCT and the manual version at 300 units each.

The dual clutch gear boxes fail in our conditions (especially traffic) once it fails, only option is to replace it.
I highly doubt dct transmissions. Considering our consumer protection laws, I will never touch a vehicle with dct.
Ford, vw have pathetic reliability with their dct models where as the regular ones are freakishly reliable. They even admitted this that dct fails in heavy traffic. As it puts heavy constant load on gear box.its not issue with the brand. It’s an issue with this technology. Because they chose dct, their brand value saw some erosion.

Haven't felt any issues till date. And trust me, have abused it to the core both on highways and on ghat roads. Its basically a robotised manual gearbox to be precise. It can fail only if the robotic function is erratic. None of the 50 bikes in India has reported any issue till date. Haven't heard of any major issue with DCT too!
And I hope the extended warranty will take care of things incase if it fails!

Automatics are definitely gonna rule in coming days! I still wonder why BMW or Ducati or Kawasaki are still silent on this matter! Am sure they all are working hard to bring in automatics at the earliest. These are technologies we cannot chumma reject without a valid reason!

And I know "this" stuff little more close as I use a VW too! 7S DSG in my GTI is totally different when compared to the SAME gearbox(DQ200) that comes in GT TSi. Later's GB suffered a lot of issues in India. But the same stuff that is in my car, which came as CBU, hasn't thrown even a single niggle yet. My Car + GB is running on the most aggressive tune it can get now. GTI is an enthusiasts car. So have abused it to the core for the last 20k kms! So now I can vouch that its NOT the technology, its the built quality that throwing out troubles! DSG and DCT's are basically same technology known in two different names. DSG by germans, DCT by Japs and Ford!

So in this case, since the AT came in CKD form, built quality would be top notch too!
