Having it not spread through the rev is important for control too.. You will know this when you do a long trip that vary on road conditions.. I'm a bit bad at explaining things..Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View Post

Re: KYMCO SuperNEX is an electric supersport with sound and a GEARBOX!
There are a lot of factors involved, I'll try keeping it short.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostI can understand why a Transmission is required in a vehicle with petrol or diesel engine as the Torque is not spread out throughout the rev range.
What purpose does it serve in an EV? Why does the Regera, the Teslas, ZeroMotorcycles not have a transmission on board?
Since EV's have peak torque from the bottom itself, it serves NO major purpose for the commuter. You can straightaway slot in the 6th gear and set off, albeit a bit slowly, if the machine allows so.
You can also have a 2 speed gearbox for EV commuters (for better range)... But 6 speed gearboxes are already developed, so they fix it instantly, and years ago, Brammo also chose a 6 speed box for their EV.
Acceleration is improved by having a gearbox, even if it feels linear...
But hey, the delay involved in shifting gears and loss of power during this period means the stopwatch may or may not be merciful on the EV, specially the high powered tyre shredders like LS218... because no-transmission has lesser loss of energy overall.
Like one member above prompted, its all about "control". Exercising control, by choosing between acceleration and better top end.
Generally, within respectable gearing limits, a transmission also helps better the vehicle's range per charge... which is a big concern with EVs, we all know.
But only within limits, overgear too much and you'll be losing charge rapidly instead, additionally the heat levels!
Here however, the decision to have a gearbox is more of an emotional one...
To make we the Petroheads feel at home. Same for the artificial sound, which might just cost (already limited) energy on the EV...---
