  • Yamaha dual sport (XTZ 125?) caught testing in India!

An xBhpian from Pune, Manigandan Rajesh (xBhp ID @rajeshmushtang), has just shared this photo of a Yamaha dual sport motorcycle, most probably Yamaha XTZ125, being ridden near Chakan, Pune.

By the looks of it, it looks like the Yamaha XTZ 125 or a 150 variant and from whatever is visible in the images, it is using dual sport tyres with mono shock suspension at the rear and a tiny looking disc upfront with drum brakes at the rear. The front wheel also is bigger than the rear wheel, typical set up for bikes like these. has a As per Mr. Rajesh, the bike was pulling in traffic like anything and was doing 70-80 kmph easily when he caught up with him.

Not sure if it will ever be launched in India or is being tested simply as an export model. The location where the bike was caught testing makes it interesting since Yamaha, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have a plant in Chakan and why would they chose to test a bike near their competitors' plants. Could it be a test mule imported by some other manufacturer for their own R&D purpose.

    Video coming shortly

Lovely. Imagine plonking a Shogun enside that chassis and boy won't it be sweet. Hope this comes here as the ADV scene here in India is heating up pretty good.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Bajaj imports lots of other bikes for testing. They had imported off roaders recently.

The background story is this: whenever a Bajaj bike requires a certain design element or engineering element, the engineering team requires an existing product to study. They say that show us an existing solution so that they can replicate the same in their bikes.

A total downer if this is whats headed to India, given the Hero Impulse, Himalayan and BMW310gs too if the dualsport segment is concerned. Old school and beautiful but 125cc and dated. An XR or a DRZ 250 is what I'd drool for.

Ah forget about XR, I even pampered Suzuki India about DRZ. I would like to see this segment to succeed at home. A 125 is a welcome introduction but they should offer one with bigger engine variant preferably a 250.

Yaah. Welcomed nonetheless. Superb if it enters the Indian market. Might set the trend or try & reshape the sad state of dual-sport in India.

Yeah that's a 125 yamaha xtz. It was launched in nepal the same time with the new r3 and honda crf250 rally. I can go take pics of the bike if you want.

                    Wait!!!
So they have already launched it in Nepal and left India?
If it works in Nepal and it is tried and tested in our neighbourhood, why take a gazillion years to launch it here?
Yamaha India being Yamaha India, this thing will cost close to Duke 125 - half for quality claims and half for brand name.
