KTM 500 cc twin cylinder motorcycle confirmed, to be made by Bajaj in India
"KTM is all set to strengthen its presence in the medium displacement segment with a new twin-cylinder sub 500 cc motorcycle. While the existence of this project is not a new update, in a recent interview, Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM, confirmed that the motorcycle in question would be made by Bajaj in India. This means, that it will be aggressively priced, and could start from as low as Rs 3.5 lakhs."

I don't think they'd straight away target Adventure category. And that wouldn't make sense considering people will expect a road version now after the RE Twins bombastic entry into the market. Every manufacturer is caught up with the Interceptor/GT fever now. They want to build something that can give a competition to the RE Twins. People who are not likely to buy a RE will definitely look for some similar options from another manufacturer. And KTM has a good history of shaking up the market with their powerful and affordable rides.Originally posted by princesirohi View PostCould it be the adv bike??

CKD would be quite an expensive affair. KTM is shining because of localization which in turn resulted in terrific price to power ratio. A KTM coming via CKD wouldn't see the same response though IMHO.Originally posted by hrd2btme View PostSupposed to be launched only by 2020. Meanwhile, the 790 is said to hit our shores in March 2019, via the CKD route.

Ya, but to launch it by March, CKD would be the only option I'm guessing. In the long run, maybe they would start manufacturing it in India itself.Originally posted by shyam.mora View PostCKD would be quite an expensive affair. Localizing the 790 would prove disastrous with a sheer dip in quality. CKD will be a more appropriate choice. Also a KTM (790) coming via CKD shouldnt see the same response. It should at the least discourage unskilled hooligans from getting their hands on this bike. For My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

I believe this is a good business idea. We're easily looking at a figure above 60 bhp which is sufficient for a lot of purposes, (provided that its a reasonably torquey streetbike).
Although, few articles claimed that this would be a Triumph-Bajaj product... Its not too clear yet.
Its not so much about quality as it is about consistency of quality.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostLocalizing the 790 would prove disastrous with a sheer dip in quality. CKD will be a more appropriate choice. (Compare the Domestic and International variants of 390)

Secondly, we're already talking about a segment where a lesser price won't attract the kind of hooligans you refer to. If its 5 lacs instead of 8L, its still 5 lacs, costlier than few cars. And yes, there are rich hooligans too.
Price is a very rough index of intelligence or sense of safety.
While a lower price would deter some rash riders, I wonder why don't we advocate the presence of true bikers on budget.
The kind who would be able to fulfill their dream if this comes along.
