Automotive companies(2 and 4 wheeler alike) generally think more from the perspective of the rider/driver due to obvious reasons. They should think of the vehicle/person coming from the other side as well.

I believe it's nothing to do with the lights, instead the user who keeps it in high beam atmost all times and/or improperly adjusted beam height which is always pointed at on-coming traffic at eye level!

Sometimes even the stock LED headlamps of the newer activa are irritating. I don't know if the owners keep the lights constantly on high beam. Also many dominar owners too keep the DRLs on high beam which is equally irritating.

Apart from the fact that several morons run their lights on high-beam I completely support the ban of LED headlights in NON-LED Housings. If the bike/vehicle does not come with LED headlights from the factory, dont stick an LED bulb in front of a Halogen Reflector.

Now ofc the "Coimbatore Consumer Cause" dont seem to know the benefits of using a properly controlled/designed HID or LED system, which does not warrant a blanket ban on them but will indian motorists learn?

This issue is vague and impractical. There was a time when cops all over India used to loathe 200cc+ bikes because these were (sometimes) used by thieves, chain-snatchers etc. Powerful bikes, powerful headlights, satellite phones, SUV's, Free-flow exhausts, these all are useful things but only if utilized properly by a logical person, you can't expect the government to ban these just because dumb people misuse them! Free-flow exhausts should always be used with the db-killer in it, even then it provides enough benefits compared to stock exhausts.

Let me state a news item from Rajasthan from 2 years back. There was a notorious gangster called anandpal, he was a big headache for the police because he used high-tech methods like cellphones and whatsapp to communicate with his gang. He even used to call his family but police were unable to trace him. The Head of police makes a statement that These mobile phones and internet are a big headache, why shouldn't we ban all these high tech gadgets, then the criminals will be forced to use landline phones and we will trace them in seconds and catch them! Do you realize how dumb this sounds?

That is similar to asking for banning LED or xenon lights. Every gadget/utility has got disadvantages when used by illogical "dharti ke bojh" people, that doesn't mean that we can go about banning such utilities.

I myself have been using LED H4 bulbs in both of my bikes. I have gone through the headache of adjusting/bending the H4 LED bulb's base in order to get proper cut-off in the low/dipper beam. And I rarely use upper beam at night in the city. My elder brother was scared of riding at night due to an old accident, now he also rides confident because I have done the same upgrade in his motorcycle too.

I think this person has not done substancial research. Here are my points against this pseudo-educated person:-


1. He calls for "total ban" on Xenon/ HID/ LED's on all sides, front, rear. How stupid this sounds, I think you Xbhpians know.
So, my Duke's LED brake light and turn indicator is an eyesore to this person, oh really?

The typical LED has resulted in power savings to the tune of almost 2 to 6 times, depending on the previous iteration (filament bulb, halogen, etc.).
And, should electric vehicles also lose them? EV's, whose battery is their only energy source on the go?


2. And the call against DRL (Daytime running lights) is just absurd. Its clear that on highways, a moving vehicle isn't clearly seen as moving from a distance, but a DRL can be of huge help attracting attention even in "abundant sunlight".
1% of India is anyways riding wrong side on vehicles like Tractors, etc. so how doesn't it help?

My right arm was fractured in 2010, due to some idiot who couldn't keep his headlight on at night time.
Where was Mr. Kathirmathiyon's "abundant sunlight" then? Had there been DRL's, the lights would've been on all the time.


3. Why is a research & ban on specific technology (Like LED, Xenon, etc.) needed?
Instead, why not test what power ratings of Xenon/ LED's are "safe"? So, we can have ratings like 25W for LED's and so.
This is the same thing that ended 2 stroke's potential, the technology itself could've been improved by FI, but they were against the word "2 stroke", and that ended the argument for good (err... bad).


4. Its bad for his position, to ask people to keep headlights on dipper... Right?
And may we ask his experience of riding/ driving on roads?


I don't wish to stereotype, but this person seems to be one who hardly drives/ travels by himself, and is just hearing posted letters about modified lights blinding people, which I agree is a genuine issue, but no use blaming ARAI for it.
Also, he is just finding the Euro 4 adopted BS4 standards "strange", and he's resisting change without thinking much.

Such reports will further cause trouble for bike owners, like that RR 310 owner who had stock headlights only...

Decision makers don't have full knowledge to make proper rules. Other day I read news that they are going to decrease the limit if helmet weight to 1200g. So all MT, SMK and high end helmets automatically ruled out. Forget about ISI vs DOT/ECE debate.

1.AHO headlight as DRL is worst. Unnecessary energy consumption. However there should be DRL. It increases awareness of opposite traffic specially on dividerless roads.

2. Whether it's LED or halogen, high beam will always be an issue. Blinding upcoming traffic .

Instead of educating drivers. Go back and remove all headlamps. How about that [emoji49]

There is a serious lack of education with our drivers/riders. There is no implementation of any rules for such an important part of riding on our roads. Our country has a rule for almost everything under the sun but when it comes to implementing the basics, it sorely lacks. There are tons of vehicles perpetually using high beam in the city and the attitude is, I, me, myself and damn the rest. The shortsightedness of this approach is that by blinding someone else, it can easily cause an accident which puts high-beam Charlie in the hospital or worse.
