In the past few weeks, we have seen spy shots of the new 1290 Superduke R, 890 Supermoto, 390 Adventure, and many more. But this one is probably the most interesting one because the KTM Rc 390 has been one of the most popular models of KTM in India. And an overhaul for the baby supersport has been long overdue. The motorcycle did get some updates in 2017 and a few things were quite significant but the design has largely remained the same.
What these spy shots suggest is here to change all of that. What's interesting is that a while ago, an overhauled 390 Duke was also spotted being tested in Germany. So we might not only see a new KTM Rc 390 but a new 390 Duke as well. The spy shots of the new KTM RC 390 have emerged from Austria. The changes in the design are significant. The fairing is new, the front is new and rounder this time around. The front also makes us wonder where the second projector lamp is...
The rear has also changed quite a bit. The seemingly similar trellis frame has a redesigned subframe and the pillion seat seems better integrated on the new model. While it could be just the rider and nothing else, the ergonomics are also seemingly changed and offer a relatively relaxed riding position on the new model. And with all of that, the tank also seems marginally bigger which, if results in increased fuel-capacity, is highly appreciated.
On the mechanical front, we do not expect a lot of changes except a few things to make the engine more refined and compliant with the new stricter norms. Power output is also highly unlikely to increase. Expecting the new KTM RC 390 and the new 390 Duke to make an appearance at this year's EICMA would be a bit too optimistic. So we believe them to show up at the next year in Milan as a part of the 2021 lineup.
