Honda CBR250R To Be Discontinued From April 2020

The Honda CBR250R won't be upgraded to the BS6 emission norms and the iconic offering will be discontinued from the market after six years of production.

What do you think? Is it a Yay or a Nay?

Personally owning one, I feel it's end of a legacy, if the grapevine are to be believed.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

What we have from Honda and Dealers is that there is no update about BS6. Dealers here said the govt asked Honda to produce CB300R locally instead of CKD. In this case, they said, the bike will be relaunched in 2021 only.

Whatever it may be, Honda won't leave this quarter litre segment blank for too long. We can expect them to launch CBR300R or CB300R again in 2021 or towards end of 2020. The competition is gradually moving from 150cc to 250cc and above and to catch up Honda was the first company to launch a 250cc bike in India. So they won't give up. But it's kind of heart breaking fact that when most of the people started loving CBR, it is getting discontinued.

They could have launched the cbr300r here when it was launched globally and made it here to keep costs in check. At least they could have updated the current gen 250r with the global version which produced 29ps of power. But honda will be honda, just kept on introducing new colour schemes.

Re: Honda CBR 250R To Be Discontinued From April 2020

I rode CBR 250R once in 2015, and my perception was that it was way smoother and refined than my 2013 Duke 390. It was in essence, everything the Karizma should've always been. Essentially, CBR is the bigger, more premium Karizma we all wanted, without the lower rpm torque though.

Yes, its the end of an era. Whoever wants to keep one should rush to showroom right now!! No update on BS6 CB300R/ CBR 300R as well sadly, and even if they exist, they won't be as affordable now.
Those expecting a similarly priced, or slightly premium offering from Honda itself, well, currently we're looking at just 3 more years of BS6 (or maybe 4-5 at best), so don't expect a world of innovation now, and its Honda, remember? Not to mention, additional costs of compliance. It just doesn't look probable.

Of course, its a competitive jungle and Yamaha and Suzuki are ready with their offerings, right from the affordable FZ25 to the more premium Gixxer 250SF (BS6).

Personally, was always a fan of the CBR especially its ability to munch miles - smooth, refined engine, carefree maintenance, good brakes (ABS Model), excellent cruising ability, sporty yet supple suspension, space enough for two and carry luggage (saddlebags + tank bags) while being comfortable enough, and never overheating even in heavy traffic. While it wasn't perfect, instrumentation was basic, people starting looking for LEDs everywhere, and more power (especially low end torque - when having pillion and luggage). It was the very first sports tourer I rode, and me and my wife both fell in love with it.

What killed this bike, IMHO is the dealers. They were never interested in selling this bike esp the ABS model, quoting no supply from HMSI. I had been to the dealers back in 2016, 2017, and then 2019, but always got the excuse of no stock. That coupled with pathetic service and KTMs just rang the death knell for the CBR.

I am on the lookout for a new ride, and CBR with CB300 engine would be perfect, which actually wouldn't be too difficult considering the amount of similarity between the two bikes. Just can't understand what the HMSI management is thinking. And with CB300 too not in stock, sad to see this bike go out of the market.

What I believe they would be thinking, is to somehow push the unicorn 150 and shine 125 to BS6 standards, so they can milk it for another 50 years

Jokes apart. I used to go gaga about CBR 250 when it was introduced in India back in 2012 or something(not sure about the year). The price it was going for that time, it was a steal IMO. Later on, HMSI played with the enthusiasts by just adding stupid stickers and different color and hiked prices exorbitantly. while the competitors came up with attractive propositions at affordable prices which killed the product even more. Even when everybody were innovating something or the other with their products two years back. HMSI only changed the vinyl styling and Headlamp, which was a very disappointing moving for me personally. Expected Honda to at least focus on CB300R, that didn't happen either. I am not at all interested in HMSI's lineup anymore

Don't Expect much from Honda in 250 cc category as they are more interested in selling basic scooty & commuter bikes. we have a lot of options from other bike makers in this category.

I learnt from my trip to IBW 2019, that the engine for CB300 is a rebored engine from CBR250R. Hence I believe Honda is moving away from 250cc single cylinder to 300cc single cylinder.
