Re: KTM working on new twins
Specially the 500cc - twin cylinder segment where we don't have a lot of competition.
Kawasaki got their Ninja 400 absurdly priced.
Suzuki & Yamaha don't have anything there either.
& Honda have yet to launch their 500 series in India - CB 500X, CB 500F & CBR 500R.
After launching the new 2020 Africa Twin, it appears that Honda wants to further expand its Indian line-up with four new 500 cc motorcycles.
Would be really interesting to see & perfect for riders upgrading from the 150-200cc class.

Re: KTM working on new twins
Well, we've heard this a lot, let's hope to see it soon, before BS6 is phased out in 2023/5....
What they're getting right is sharing the engine among multiple models. This will help a lot keeping the costs low, getting multiple types of customers and developing mechanic expertise (which is going to be crucial for small cities at least).
What they're not getting so right is the cubic capacity... The 600cc segment is of crucial marketing advantage, it will make their bike a "Big Boy", even though its not an inline 4. They will be able challenge a wide variety of bikes, specially with the Value for Money Tag. But I have a feeling, its kind late for a change now, so I accept it.
One thing I wish for is, I hope the 490 variants have different, but inter-fittable chain sprocket kits so that we may choose a gearing ratio for whatever bike we have... so that we can choose from overgearing and undergearing. For some reason, its something manufacturers have ignored till now, although Bajaj did cater to it invisibly(14-36, 14-37, 14-38, 14-39, 14-43 sprockets, all interfittable, can't be coincidence)... so I can expect, right?
Given the way Duke 390 (3.1 Lakh on road) is priced, I'd say we'll be lucky to get them in around 4.5L on road launch price, if at all, otherwise look northward of 5L.
I wouldn't get excited at the news of Honda launching a performance vehicle, unless it actually reaches the showrooms across the nation, not just 10-20 showrooms across the country. Let's see...---
Brotherhood, Rules, Freedom. Xbhp.
Indian riding = Alertness, Anticipation and Adjustment.
