Carlin Dunne, 36-years old, hailed from Santa Barbara, California. He had won the famed Pikes Peak Hill Climb race 4 times and was looking forward to taking his 5th title on Sunday. The race is a 20-km sprint to the summit of Pikes Peak. Last year as well, he won the race aboard a Ducati Multistrada which also spawned a Pikes Peak Edition of the motorcycle.

This year, Carlin Dunne was already one of the favourites to win the race. He was racing aboard the Ducati Streetfighter V4 Prototype. He qualified on pole and was well on his way to win the race and defend his title. More than that, he was also set to break the record for the best time in the category before the disaster struck.

The cause of his crash is still being investigated but according to a few sources, a lot of riders were struggling with a bump near the summit. It is being said that Carlin must have hit the bump at high speed which might be the cause of his crash.
Carlin Dunne is the 7th participant who has died taking part in this Hill Climb event. Our thoughts and prayers are with his near and dear ones.
"We mourn the tragic death of Carlin and he will remain in our hearts forever as part of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb family," said a news release from the Board of Directors of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. "Carlin will be remembered as a warm-hearted mentor with a competitive spirit."

May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences.
