The biggest change in the new model is the addition of 37-litre aluminium panniers, in place of the hard-plastic ones on the previous-gen. They also feature a non-piercing rivet design and waterproof rubber seals in the lid that make sure that everything inside stays dry in all conditions except submersion of course! Another change is that the handlebar on the new Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT Adventure gets a crossbar which should improve front-end feel especially when the tarmac disappears from under the tyres.
The new motorcycle retains the accessory/crash bar and the centre-stand from the current 650 XT Touring. Other things that have stayed the same are the chassis and the engine. The motor is an SV650-based engine, tuned for a strong bottom end and mid-range. It uses 39mm throttle bodies with servo-motor controlled secondary butterflies to smoothen the power delivery.
Chassis components include the trusted twin-spar aluminium frame, 43mm forks, and an aluminium swingarm with monoshock at the rear. Stopping power is the courtesy of dual 310mm discs and two-piston callipers plus a rear 260mm disc, both equipped with ABS. Spoked wheels, 19" at the front and 17" at the back, are shod with Bridgestone Battalax radial tyres which are pretty good for the tarmac but if you want to tame the bumpy stuff, it's better to invest in better rubber.
The V-Strom 650 XT is currently on sale in India at INR 7.46 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). If the new Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT Adventure does make its way to India, we expect the price to go up slightly considering the addition of the aluminium panniers and other stuff.
