According to the teaser that you see above, the tagline says "loading a new level of darkness". That is very much in line with the slogan that is generally used with the MT-series of motorcycles which is 'Dark Side of Japan'. But more than anything, the front fascia and the overall silhouette of the motorcycle make it pretty clear that it is the MT 125. It is an almost lookalike of the MT-15 currently on sale in the Indian market.
This revelation is also very similar to what Yamaha did the last time around when the Yamaha R15 v3 was launched in India. They launched the latest generation of the R125 which, again, was an almost lookalike of the Indian R15 v3. If we follow along the same lines, the MT 125 is bound to be powered by the mill that powers the R125. That also confirms the presence of VVA.
Yamaha will suspend the 125cc mill in a similar Deltabox frame, aluminium swingarm and USD forks (unlike India). On the tech front, we expect it to sport the same fully-digital instrument cluster that is present on the R125 and hence, the same one in use on the R15 v3 and MT-15 on sale in India. What comes as a plus for the MT 125 is that it is 4 kg lighter than the R125 and weighs 138 kg (wet).
The MT-15 has a 155cc mill with 58 mm bore and 58.7 stroke while running an 11.6:1 compression ratio and makes 19 bhp of power. The MT 125 will have a 52mm bore and the same 58.7 mm stroke and a lower compression ratio of 11.2:1. This results in the motorcycle producing 15 bhp of power.
While we do not expect to see the motorcycle in India, it will be officially revealed on the 16th of October.
