i still remember the days when pulsar was launched, it was an instant hit, and still rules the market.
my point is simple, comets were not a bad bike(kinetic service was), at 1,70,000 they were pure value for money.let other makers go the CBU way, why not give people what they want, a decent bike with a decent price tag can do much more then mopeds.
and what about a CBU ninja vs CKD comet!

The way I see it is Mahindra will first want to mint some quick money (and\to rope in dealers and distributors) using such fast moving low competition and easy on wallet products....

Then may be into decent bikes for brand building... Importing Hyosung Bikes did more damage to Kinetics reputation than it actually helped... think from an unbiased mind.... would you buy a bike that Kinetic produced all by themselves?

PS: I would love to join Mahindra & Mahindra for the two wheelers marketing!!!
Imagine people being afraid of buying the Ninja because they 'know' Bajaj will have a tough time in servicing them! You think Kinetic\Mahindra can do away with that?

Ofcourse that segment is empty but there are a few issues
    1) the BAD reputation of Kinetic in servicing such bikes
    2) the Appalling state of diminishing dealers and sales spares network
    3) the n00b reputation of Mahindra...

It will be very difficult for Mahindra and Mahindra to jump into a High Ticket product category and 'address' these three consumer perceptions!

What they are doing is simple business sense... sell products that even your age old broke to the core dealer can sell (or think of selling)... pitch a product which is from your forte.... earn some name, some network and some respect (Solutions to problems 1,2,3)
Then probably go to the next fast moving segment of sub 150CC bikes... and then may be premium (if M&M wants to create a premium image)

IMO Mahindra would want to be Another "Bajaj" giving value for money products! any new imports would only for brand building.... (oh and which brand would they bring to India? )

The Indian 2 wheeler market is replete with motorcycle models and many strong motorcycle brands.. competition is already fierce among established manufacturers.

On the other hand the scooter market has only two serious players, HMSI with (Male centric / Unisex scooters) models like Activa, Dio, Aviator and TVS with its female centric small scooters like Scooty Pep+, Streak.. oh yeah, Suzuki does sell its Activa like Access.

Scooters business would be the natural choice for Mahindra 2 Wheelers.

I am able to access the link. I am completely awestuck and floored by the features they provided with the scooters, particulalry the Rodeo.

                          Some highlight features of Rodeo:
                          Digital speedometer and Odometer
                          Digital Clock
                          Tachometer
                          Color changing illuminated speedo console
                          Side stand buzzer
                          7-amp battery
                          Front fuel tank
                          Large storage spce
                          Front telescopic suspension
                          Etc.

This is the kind of scooter I am looking for city rides. But, we have to see how the quality of the bike.

Just when the Kinetic brand seemed to be fading out, its heartening to see signs of it coming back to life.. albeit with a new brand name (Mahindra) of course.

I have heard of SYM (the technical partner of Mahindra) products to be of very good quality.. hoping that the products for the Indian market will bear the same good quality along with good sales and service experience.

Ravi has a Kinetic SYM Flyte. He's speaking about the quality after using it... and the white elephant Kinetic Blaze before that... Kinetic killed the quality levels of Italiano Scooters and SYM.
