  • Delhi geared to become Cleaner and Greener!

"Delhi becomes the first city in India that will switch to ultra low sulphur diesel from April 2010. This comes as one of the concrete steps from the government towards developing more environmentally friendly cities in India. The government is seriously working on efforts to minimize the environmental hazards. Improving the quality of diesel being used in the capital city that complies with tough diesel emission standards will drastically reduce the sulphur content in the air and improve the quality of the air in the city. The new laws come into force from April 2010.

PSUs like HPCL, IOC, BPCL will now need to introduce Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) or S50 which is cleaner diesel fuel that has a maximum sulphur content of 50 parts per million (ppm). The new diesel will be still far below the international standards of 15ppm that has been used since 2006.

Euro IV vehicles will also be mandatory in the city from April 2010. These laws will come into force initially in 11 cities in India and later on adopted by tier II and tier III cities of the country. "
