The Pune-based company has attributed the jump in its monthly sales to its newly launched 100cc Discover DTS-Si and the Pulsar. It sold 94,265 units of its new 100cc Discover DTS-Si and 50,153 units of the Pulsar.

                  Pulsar vs FZ sales

Well if pulsar series sales is 50000 units then how much is FZ/FZ-S/FAZER & R15'S sales out of Yamaha's total sale?I dont understand why is Pulsar's sale so much more then Yamaha's FZ series despite FZ series being much more advance in looks and technology wise?Is it mainly due to price factor or something else? It will be very intresting to see Yamaha's next move at the auto expo

Combined Yamaha sales is 17055 unites which i think mostly consists of the FZ series, Fazers and R15. Dont think any other model is selling as well for them.

The reason why Pulsar (P150, P180 and P220 combined) sells 50k+ could be many, it all depends on India ki "Aan Junta", what they want. MAybe they have diff perceptions towards Yamaha, discussing such factors could just make this thread into a Yamaha V/S Bajaj thread so atleast am not getting into it.

high prices and low mileage of yamaha products is what keep the masses away. also thier lack of interest in introducing crowd pullers like the Discover 100 DTsi is another reason.yamaha still have the very ordinary crux & alba. ??they should upgrade them with similar tech what bajaj uses.most of yamaha sales is driven by there fan following from the never say die RX series. hope they bring a pocket friendly Gladiator 150 which will defenitely push sales if excuted properly.afterall Glady 125 is brilliant machine

in cases of bajaj they use the discover and pulsar brand names in tandem with almost the same engines and take out the last drop from the market.they are just looking at the sales and they do is better than others

afterall the biking community is benefited is int it ?

                      looking forward the auto expo

                        3 reasons for this.
                        1) The biggest reason is people still don't trust Yamaha with their past in India. The kind of numbers they are doing is still amazing considering their past record.
                        2) India is still a very much price sensitive market so Yamaha should try and reduce prices across it's range.
                        3) The current FZ & R series still has niche appeal when compared to other manufacturers and Yamaha still has to upgrade it's 100/125cc products.

[1] According to me the FZ buyer belongs to a different category. The typical FZ buyer according to me is already looking out for something else other than the Pulsar, maybe because he wants to look Stylish and differentiated from the crowd.

The Pulsar on the other hand still continues to sell because of reasons similar to the Hero Honda Splendor's sales success, that is because of its "Brand strength/presence" over the years. As there are guys who want to appear different in a crowd, there are also scores of other guys who would prefer to buy a product because of its familiarity. One which they have known since a long time and have faith (and maybe an emotional appeal) in it.

The power/strength of a brand (Brand Equity) can be gauged by the amount a company saves by NOT having to advertise for its product. When was the last time a TV Ad was made for the "Pulsar 150"..?? It was probably way back in 2003-04 when the UGII was launched..!!

[2] Perception of less mileage associated with Yamaha products: Yamaha brand is well accepted in India for its Pick up and Power but not so much for its fuel efficiency... thanks to its 2 stroke heritage of the RD350 and the RX series of motorcycles.. also the mileage figure of the FZ series if not the worst, is also not among the best in the present 150 cc category.

Nevertheless credit has to be given to the Yamaha FZ Series in the manner it has created a niche for itself in a such a short span of time.
