  • Royal Enfield is planning

The Chennai based motorcycle-maker will invest Rs 65 crore to ramp up its capacity by 2013

Currently RE produces around 50,000 of its niche bikes annually, but according to the Royal Enfield DGM, Sales and Marketing - S Koshy, the company will double the capacity to one lakh units by 2013 with an investment of Rs 65 crore at the existing plant in Chennai.

The Bullet maker recently launched two new models, namely the Classic 350 and Classic 500 loaded with new age engine and priced just over Rs 1 lakh each. With the introduction of these new models RE hopes to sell around 50,000 bikes this year compared to 43,298 units sold last year.

The firm also exports Bullet 500cc to Europe and the US. Now the bike-maker is targeting to expand the share of exports from the current 5% to upto 15% in the next three years by venturing into countries like Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, besides strengthening its presence in Europe and the US.

Giving a ray of hope to Indian bikers the company officials had earlier hinted that they could move up to bigger engine categories like 800cc and 1000cc at a later stage.

I am sure the increase in production numbers must be for Export. I only hope, bikes for India are also made on the same Production Line. We could have better quality. Not that the quality is bad, it has improved over the years, but still not at par I suppose.

                    That doesnt keep RE apart....
Brand loyalty keeps RE apart. Period. No amount of quality issues are ever wanted by the bikes owner. They just end up compromising for what they really find to be their true love.
                    Dont bash me.
But the fact that there has been an improvement in the quality doesnt mean that the current quality is cool. Ofc it can mean that but in REs case it just plain means that their initial quality before the improvements was just plain bollocks and the amount of improvement, and the time it took to make it happen is unforgiving.
I think ppl in India are way too forgiving towards technology flaws and quality defeciencies.

I sound like a hater ? No...i am going out and buying the classic so I aint prejudiced !

^^ no you wont be bashed, but that is exactly what i wouldve said too. Quality issues in HH, honda, suzuki etc, and its a bad product, but quality issues in RE. We all choose to live with them, for the ownership of a bullet.

We still love it although it has 1935 technology (If I recall correctly it was in 1935 this model was made with vertical cylinder, pushrod). However, with the new Classic Enfield has moved to UCE from traditional engine.

^^ which i would rate as the best RE ever. Less vibes, more refinement, better power, and power delivery.

That's indeed a good move by RE. It would be great to see 800 and 1000cc bulls!
