The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Huh..The Scooters were the only thing which made them known as a prominent player in Indian Two Wheeler Market and now they are giving excuses of being greedy!!

Never expected this sort of comment from Mr.Rajeev Bajaj. And about the drawing board thing, i think he forgot about the Blade which they showcased in 08'Auto Expo!!

Few months back, Bajaj said it's going to launch Activa 'Killer' in 2012 and today we have this news
In 2006-2007, it confused people/media by talking about LPG bike and then DI bike
In 2006 Bajaj exited out of 100cc to become no.1 only to realize in 2009 that 100cc is an important segment
          Strategies of Bajaj is wierd

Eh, they're just shifting their focus as per the market trends. Motorcycles are a growing segment. Scooters aren't.

It's like blaming Sony for not making cassette tape Walkmans anymore even though that one product made them world famous back in the day.

Chicane:correctly explained by synn man...It's an evolving process & they have decided to not to pursue certain business segment.BTW I still have 2 chetaks

But resident marketing strategists still need an online forum for bashing

Shez who..Scooter sales are also growing!!

Bajaj Auto's local scooter sales slumped 57% from a year earlier during April-November to 3,356 units. That compares with a 15% rise in total scooter sales in India during the period to 891,303 vehicles, helped by better performances by the local units of Honda Motor Co. and Suzuki Motor Corp. as well as Hero Honda Motors Ltd. and TVS Motor Co.

Honda seems to be launching new scooters, newer variants ....this is just honda effect. I would have loved to see bajaj compete.. this is something similar to wat bajaj said the entry level is shifting to 125 cc bikes and then HH continued to pile sales in 100 cc and bajaj decided to return. this can happen again.who knows

I do not have the figures with me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure that the motorcycle market has been growing almost exponentially over the past few years while scooters haven't. The 15% growth figure is news to me, but it's over far too short a time period to accurately judge market trends. Motorcycles vs scooters over the period of 3 years or so would paint a more accurate picture.

Another arguable factor is that motorcycles cater to a wider consumerbase than scooters.

                          I agree with you.
Though the scooter sales are decreasing as the years pass by, they still have many takers.

This move makes sense for Bajaj as Kristal is not selling, but I think the timing of the announcement was wrong since the news overshadowed the Pulsar 135cc launch

Bajaj told a similar thing about the 100cc bikes some time before. But now they are back with the 100cc discover.
Now they are telling about scoots.
