  • Bajaj offered 90% share in KTM. (51%.

The Pune based auto major has been offered to up its stake in KTM, by the Austrian performance bike maker from the recently acquired 30% to a controlled 90 % share. According to reports Bajaj has accepted the offer but it might initially only purchase another 21% which would give the Indian firm a controlling 51% stake. In due time, Bajaj plans to raise its percentage holding to the offered 90%.

The current partnership between the firms has helped KTM to develop small capacity bikes including a 125cc and a 250cc bikes, both due for launch later this year. It will be interesting to see the impact on KTM, if and when, Bajaj does acquire majority stakes in the European firm, which is one of the biggest off-roading bike makers in the world.

My Comments: So, Bajaj is heading for the magical number 51%, before it can make that 90? For the decision making power, it seems.

I hope Bajaj maintains the KTM brand efficiently and properly. I also hope that the word "KTM" remains years after years.
But at the end of it, I really wonder what we Indian bikers will get out of this deal.

but i read otherwise. this news generated with one of the tv news channels and KTM were quick to deny it.

this actually happened last week and not a recently.

                      12 February 2010 09:34:

KTM has denied claims by an Indian news agency that it has invited 30% stakeholder to increase it’s stake to 90%.

The Austrian firm says that current controlling shareholder CROSS Industries will continue to hold more than 50% of shares in KTM, meaning there will be no change in leadership of the company.

Earlier reports had suggested Indian company Bajaj, one of the world’s biggest two-wheeled manufacturers, would be increasing it’s stake initially to 51%, and later to 90%.

                      The full KTM statement reads:

sorry folks. i was excited too...

It's just meaningless to decipher this news for me.

I hope this news gets converted to a 200cc+ bike being launched by KTM/BAJAJ with pricing being reasonable enough.May be it's too much to ask for!!

Thats indeed something to be excitied about. This wouldnt only give Bajaj a controlling stake but a name. A name the most of the biking world is unaware about - Bajaj. Have heard that KTM RC8 has managed to enter in the moto GP. A 90% (even 51%) stake will rename it KTM-Bajaj RC8 and thats what will make the news. Moreover, it will improve the brand value of the Indian firm and will give it boost to make presence in eastern europe.

Someone has said it rightly, slow and steady wins the race.
