  • 'Dickhead' road safety ad in Australia

The Victorian state department for roads, Vicroads launched its new campaign in Melbourne and surrounds for raising road safety awareness protocols. It has used the word 'Dickhead' very prominently and as the focal point of its commercials. It was bound to create controversy even in the liberal and frank Australian culture.

The poll clearly says it all:

In my opinion the use of the word was a little extreme, but it really got people talking about it, and maybe increase safety too!

    Cool....

Would love to see something like this in India.

Wonder what word they would choose here for "Dickhead".

Not extreme, infact an apt title for an ad, which sends out a strong message to those not following road safety norms!

        Controversy or not!
        Banned advertisement or not!
The message is anyways conveyed to almost everybody in Australia and beyond

Reminds me of the Balbir Pasha campaign by the Indian Govt for AIDS awareness. Hmmm, I find that dickhead campaign apt (at least for them where it is a pretty common usage and not as offending as it would be for us) to promote saftey.

haha! Lewis hamilton was called a "dick head" by the Victorian road minster for doing burnouts on public roads before the Australian gp . And the car which he drove was impounded !

This should be the case for those guys who use cellphones in movie theatres in this country with scant respect for others around them! There are so many of them here. We have everything in such abundance.

              And he publicly apologized.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Considering Hamilton has a dick, this seems fine. But what about women? A 'Vag' head?.
Perhaps a unisex word might have been more appropriate like "Jerkhead".

I feel they could have used Stars to show Censored Words...

" ****-Head " sounds more effective, but still more legal than straight "Dickhead".

We really eye-catch phrases with censored words in them, and that's the key to diplomatic spreading of the word...
