  • Ducati aim to patent their MotoGP Chassis for Streetbikes.

It seems Ducati is attempting to get a patent, to put MotoGP level Chassis to the streetbikes, most probably starting with the 2011 version of 1198.

Basically, in which the engine is a part of the chassis system. It's feasible & we hope it actually happens and goes well!

This solution is defined as a continuation of the bike itself, GP3 (first Desmosedici which began in 2003) for example was particularly characteristic of possessing the swingarm pivot and the rear suspension arm connected to the engine only without any connection with the chassis front. The GP7, besides the solution adopted by the GP3, saw the front and rear chassis disjoint between them and therefore the engine had the task of being the central part of the frame and the bike itself, unlike the GP3 that saw a single frame together.

In particular, the front frame of the GP7 was task connecting the motor to pivot steering while the rear frame connected the engine to the seat and footrest, making it more spacious and less light. The GP9 sees the front frame to take a form to perform the function of connecting the motor to pivot steering and air-box. The monocoque allows then to efficiently implement the two functions.

There have been street bikes which have been using engines as stressed members of the chasis for quite some time now. How different is this from them?
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Front and rear chassis are completely disjoint. Engine serves as a link on for both of these... It was introduced in GP7.

        Otherwise yes, you are right...
But the major thing here, is their move away from Trellis Frame, in favor of more performance, less weight and low cost.

Ok. The GP10 uses a carbon fibre frame, what's the street bike going to get?

Desmo Street bike was based on GP6. Remember, those 990cc days?

And this Chassis improvement was first seen on GP7. The quote in the first post clarifies this.

Desmosedici RR has "Tubular steel trellis hybrid" Chassis.
