  • Day 15 - 20: Mumbai - Pune - Hubli - Bangalore

The 15th day of the Great India Collectors Ride saw the team meet up with the xBhpians of Mumbai at the Mcdonalds in Navi Mumbai on the Mumbai - Pune Highway. The team was led by Ramprakash from Vile Parle all the way to Navi Mumbai on his special paint scheme Busa. At the meeting point we chilled with the Mumbai xBhpians, till the Chief Guest of the show turned up on his Fireblade. The Darknight, Nitin Manore made his presence felt with his roaring superbike.

The party then headed into the Ghats, towards Pune, with 50 odd bikes leading us out to the border of Panvel. Some of the bikers turned back to Mumbai, while the rest accompanied the GICR team all the way to Lonavala, for a quick breakfast at the very popular Kamats, a favourite haunt for the bikers of Mumbai and Pune. At Kamat, the Mumbai bikers handed over the team to the Pune guys, who collected the team and put the bikes through the paces as we headed towards the Deccan Queen. The meeting point in Pune was at the other end, and the entourage of bikers had to ride through the entire city to reach the place. We were fortunate to be escorted by the very capable Sanchit on his KTM, who made sure that we reached the venue just 'respectably late'!

The thriving Pune Chapter gave the team a warm welcome and then started the banter and sharing session, where the stalwart of xBhp Pune Vishwas Mokashi and Mumbai Nitin Manore, spoke about their experiences with the xBhp community. There was an impromptu question and answer session, where the discussion veered off to the origins of the name of the Hayabusa. The bike being named after a Falcon, which also does 300+ kmph.

The fun filled afternoon finally came to an end, as the team headed out for the hotel which was just 4 km away. Unfortunately technology does sometimes play spoil sport and the GPS took us on a wild goose chase across the city and the 'short' ride took us the better part of an hour and saw us covering around 30 km! Not the kind of adventure the team was looking for...

    Re: Day 15 - 20: Mumbai - Pune - Hubli - Bangalore

What is Pune without Lavasa. As any biker will probably tell you, it is just another crowded city with good food. But the real pleasure of staying in Pune comes 50 km away, nestled in the Ghats.

And thus the GICR team headed out to the township of Lavasa once again escorted by Sanchit. The curves of the climb there were so good that the team went there on two consecutive mornings. What is the point of spending the morning in bed, when it can be spent leaning through the corners and getting acquainted with the tarmac from close quarters! Motorcycling is about the motorcyclist and not the motorcycle - this was aptly demonstrated by Sanchit as he climbed the hills on his Duke 200, with the same speed as the litre class bike of Sunny, leaving the rest far behind.

After a good breakfast at the extremely scenic Lavasa, we headed back, where we went on an off-road excursion in the midday sun. Do you curse the hot sun or enjoy the mud on the run, a dilemma the team faced as we enjoyed the V-strom and the Land Rover Evoque on the terrain where they feel at home.

In the evening the GICR team met up with the Pune xBhpians at their weekly G2G at The Paddock. The team got a chance to interact with the Pune Chapter and see how they chilled. The Pune Chapter is one of the most active in the country and this shows by the fact that they actually meet every wednesday. A wonderful initiative started by the stalwarts of the city and it helps keep the group together. Something great for the other cities to learn from.

Lavasa - One of the best destinations nearby Pune for cornering fun. BTW, I guess Sanchit lives in those hills only. Come any Saturday, and you'll find him there.

        Re: Day 15 - 20: Mumbai - Pune - Hubli - Bangalore

The ride from Pune to Bangalore saw us stop for the night at Hubli. Since the monsoons in the South is always a gamble, the team decided to break journey in the small town of Hubli, which is more or less midway.

As we exited Pune, our first stop was at the toll where we met up with xBhpian Omkar Budhale from Kolhapur, who happened to be visiting Pune for work. Omkar was kind enough to bring a Silver Coin minted in 1951 for the Collectors team, as a contribution towards the freedom motorcycle. After a brief chit chat session, the team moved on to Hubli and the next day to Bangalore.

The roads from Pune to Bangalore is amazing and is probably the reason for so many successful saddlesore attempts in India. A few pictures from the two days that the team rode from Pune to Bangalore.
