i have a question... what the whole point of these rides ?? does the mass really care for wearing a helmet after seeing 200 odd people riding at once.. they just watch in amusement.
these become more of superbike showdown stuff...

the mass, especially the adults might not easily change their 'attitude' towards using a helmet (maybe unless its enforced strictly by law)
but i think such rides/promotions should be targeted towards the school kids or college guys, i feel rubbing it in from a young age will at least make the future generation of riders a little more responsible n safety conscious.
the 'wheelie boy' logo near the ride for safety on the pic above made me go , and i am not getting in to the discussion of whether it is a showoff/showdown stuff.. i can only say that we (govt , people , law enforecement)sadly lack an effective way of educating/teaching or implementing the rules.

I disagree with you on that. Though adults over the age of 50 will never wear modern helmets I am yet to see an educated adult not using at least an open face plain helmet. They also adhere to the rules more stringently than people below that age (though there are exceptions to the rule).
Its aactually still the youngsters who think its cool to ride without safety gear coz it gives them a chance to flaunt their fashionable clothing and looks. I know I sound judgmental and jaded but that is the sad truth believe it or not.

            thats the problem...
my gelled super spiked hair will go for a toss
how will i show off in front of a chic
then WOT in first gear ... to show off.. yes young blood...

but then... panic brake... screech... doom...
i have been to some of these big huge rides... i dont even wanna call these as (rides).. we ride from point A to point B and discuss bout safety. we are the people who already know bout safety why reiterate to the same crowd over and again.. rather find a way in which we spend this knowledge and wisdom to the 3rd world of careless riders/drivers/cyclists etc. those are people who need to know.. we already know it... and to reach them.... i don't see how a ride of 300 motorbikes will give them any wisdom...

and less i speak about those chai pakoda rides the less is better. the whole story is never out.. only the green side is.... there is also something called as "the dark side of moon" which ain't visible to most folks...

Its just a sbk showoff event, bikers getting banged from the rear,I was peresent that year.
Just remove Ajay Devgn and lets see how many turn up actually for safety.
After the event the bikers are stunting and have seen two cases of accident the same year. As I have said before in some other thread sometime back "the wise will wear helmet and other safety equipment, ride maturely and fools will be fools"

The event should provide oxygen mask for the riders behind the RD350 biker groups (no offence to bikes but all at one place makes me feel like its a BMC fumigation drive)

The bright side of this can be :

                1. Some youngsters see these fully geared riders and think 'Wow that is some biking spirit! They look so great in all that gear. From now on even I will ride with proper gear'.
                2. The riders themselves feel responsible and get that feel of biking brotherhood to keep them going strong. Encourage them to promote rider safety among their family and friends.
                3. The police get a morale boost by seeing so many people stand up to promote road safety.

Well if those happen, I would say the job is done!

LOL :P your right about the fumigation drive buddy. Classic bike riders should not go on these drives but to antique and classic shows. I too have two of these "smokers" but I only ride them every once in a while. These are not everyday bikes these are showcase bikes.

And you're spot on about the mature riders riding maturely. These bloody "Kal ka bachchas" think they are cool and they end up learning the hard way but they always end up giving the law abiding riders a bad name.

No offence buddy but, Wishful thinking much?
But all in all I really hope what you say really happens. Maybe one day peoples eyes will open.

I don't see any point in these mass riding hungama on streets in promoting safe riding. The more practical solution would be to open an NGO or a group consisting of enthusiastic like minded bikers, associate with traffic police n media houses, go to schools and colleges, corporate houses, near by and promote safe riding. Alternatively, use social media to reach out to the young n old alike. Spread the word. Encourage our near and dear one's to pick up the habit of riding safe, others would follow likely. Riding en masse promoting safety will just not make the cut with aam junta. If I came across such rides, I for one, would be more interested in the bikes they are riding than about the gears they are wearing. I would aspire to own such bikes someday, safety gears would be completely oblivious to my senses, and this off course speaking in my perspective. All of them to me would be looking like Darth Vader on 2 wheels and I would not be able to decipher the head or tails of their gear:banghead:. It is important to explain the traffic rules, form and function of the safety gears in layman terms, only then we can hope for some change. Why not nominate fellow xBhpian's and other bikers you know to promote safe riding and the importance of riding gears on social media, a' la #icebucketchallenge!! Ringing bells, anyone?

yes thats a real deal.. a bunch of full armored bikers.. go to collages.. open up a workshop.. almost all college guys love motorcycles..
teach them. intract with them.. show them that gradually and by spending some cash they can help themselves.. better protection.
if that happens. i will be the first one to volunteer to go to such places and teach them kids.. i am sure it will be far better than 200-300 exhausts screaming together.

I don't think these events will aware people to wear safety gears or driving in proper manner. I am not against these rides ( its personal or a specific group choice when they want to ride ) but these should not be considered as traffic awareness program or like that. If really we want to aware people approach to public places like schools, colleges, malls, etc. And my main point is why they are limited to only metro cities why not other cities of the country.
I could be wrong in my statement senior members can correct me if i am wrong.
