Day 8: Whangamata - Roturua-Opotiki-Gisborne
The Buried Village of Te Wairoa
After the tiring two walks I decided to hurry to the East Cape and then to Gisborne. Another 320kms were remaining and it was 4 PM. I had to decided what to miss now. I arrived in a town called Opotiki which had two ways, both scenic, to choose from. One around the East Cape and the other direct to Gisborne via the Waioeka Gorge Scenic Reserve which was 150kays shorter. I chose the latter since I had too much of the coast in the last couple of days and almost everything was beautiful here.
