Re: Helmet Fogs up - How to avoid

For the fogging from inside, there is no help mate. Maybe you can just open up the helmet's visor one notch (by a few centimeters/one step) so that fog/mist doesn't build up.
For the outside, you can use :
1. Paper napkins - requires frequent stopping and cleaning, keeps the visor scratch free.
2. Tobacco/cigarettes - rub the tobacco on the visor and say bye bye to water droplets. Needs to be done once in a day. May cause small scratches over prolonged use and of course if would smell like a ciggy too.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

For the fogging the only thing close to a solution is what Divya Sharan suggested, keep the helmet visor open just by a cm or so

@Divya Sharan is right. I have a LS2 helmet and i too use the same strategy and it works. No worries on water seeping into the helmet. This solution attended heaviest rains in Pune with ease.

Re: Helmet Fogs up - How to avoid

I too face the same problem frequently and more so because of the balaclava which causes even more fogging.

What I have learnt is,

1. Like Divya said, keep it a little open but it can also be ineffective at times.

2. Rub cigarettes/potates to reduce fogging. I tried potato but it didnt help much.

3. Buy an anti fog spray Not sure how much it costs, should be available online (please do the search).

4. Helmets like HJC come with antifog visors, which are visors treated with chemicals to avoid fogging. The effectiveness of this can degrade with time due to frequent cleaning/washing of visor, since the chemicals can come off.

I am planning to try the potato option again and see if it helps

I am sure using a balaclava won't help, tht would just increase the humidity/temperature inside and make it easier for the fogging to take place, especially when its cooler outside.

Anyway, let me try in cooler weather & post it here; for now, when I'd used Balaclava in Chennai Evening weather & at Kodi last month (in the early morning) I didn't witness any fog or bog.

I got your question, and by fact I did mean personal experience sorry if I conveyed some other message. Used to use the balaclava on a daily basis here in bangalore, during summers or noon time never had issues but always when the visor was completely closed I had fogging problems when it rained, early mornings and late in the night

Ok, then let me test it thoroughly during early mornings & late night runs whenever possible to keep an update here. BTW, I'm using the new Spartan's Balaclava that covers the mouth & nose as well.

Ok I experience this a lot....
n I wear spectacles too.

The only solution I found to work to some point is the one already suggested by divyan.... keep the visor open to a few cms... in case of my Studds Scorpion helmet, 2-3 notches suffice.

Also when stopping, open the visor to max possible notches... its worst when you stop.

Another thing, be calm... breathing heavily means more fogging...

Also, some balaclavas have especialized air wents to counter fogging....

Haven't used them so can't comment...
