Renovation 1972 Jawa 250 (353/04)
Hi. This is a post about my father's bike which was handed to me, this past June on my birthday, when I also secured admission to my Postgraduate M. D. course. This bike has been with my father since the past 43 years. He purchased it with his first job's salary with some assistance from my grandfather. It has been with him ever since. He used to drive to his office daily. He was known by this bike and every evening when he returned, I knew it from the beats emanating from the silencer. Watching the rings of smoke being blown out of the silencer was my favorite pastime. I have been using it ever since I got my license. I remember one day it was raining cats and dogs in the morning and I had to reach for my morning shift, my other bike did not start. My Jawa which was on its stand since a year that time, started within 4 kicks. She got me back home safely as well. But once I reached, she stopped running. I was crazy busy with work, so I could not follow up with my mechanic. Since then it has been standing under the sun and rains under a cover for more than 3 years. Finally I took time out and went loony behind my mechanic and got him to start the bike, the clutch plates had hardened, so they were replaced as well. My speedometer was spoilt beyond repairs. Now I have dropped off the bike for renovation. I am attaching the before renovation pics.
I will post the other pics as and when possible. -

Re: Renovation 1972 Jawa 250 (353/04)
Hi guys!
Sorry for the delayed reply. As anyone who has attempted a restoration of their bike from the previous millennium would confirm, the restoration is a painfully long process.
I made a trip to Kolhapur last week, where the bike is being restored and met up with my mechanic Rasool Kaka (the elderly gentleman in the picture) to get the status of the restoration. Murphy's law is completely at play here. First kaka's wife underwent an angioplasty a week after I kept the bike with him in December. Then last week, just as things were getting settled, the other gentleman in the picture (the painter) lost his mother in law. The bike had been in a crash ages back and the chassis had a bend, while removing the same, some other part bore the brunt. Now that has got sorted. The extended frame you see at the back of the chassis is to prevent the rear mud guard from getting bent when the pillion sits.
I spoke to the mechanic just today evening. Apparently the dent removal and painting for half the parts is done. He has also received the parts which were given for chroming. (The place where the chroming was being done, was closed the day I went there) The remaining painted parts will be given to him on Monday evening. Waiting for some other parts to come through. The old block will be sleeved and given a standard size piston.
Request moderator permission for putting some pictures of the Yezdi 175cc of the mechanic.

Are you also planning to change the original Bore of 65.0 mm?A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Re: Renovation 1972 Jawa 250 (353/04)
Once it is done and I ride the bike without any problems, then I'll consider the project as good, hell even great. Right now it is a pain in the neck. Treat, sure! If I don't get ripped off. Slim chance of that, so cross my fingers.
